Hi,

I am looking for an ibd center to treat my kid. we will be coming from overseas, where there is no specialized center for ibd. my boy is 12 and was diagnosed with crohns four years ago. he is failing all kind of treatment he has been given and not improving. now he is taking mesalazine and infliximab.

I will be very grateful for any information you give me.

Thank you

Although I have no experience with this Hospital - it appears the best Pediatric GI hospital is Boston Children's Hospital. I have been using the resources on their site weekly since our dX. I used to live in Boston - it is a great city, good luck!

Mary,
I highly recommend children's hospital of philadelphia. We went there for a second opinion and at first were not impressed but at the end we were very happy. The head doctor there has crohn's disease himself. I think that makes him more understanding to what our children go through.

As above
Children's of philidelphia
Boston children's
And
Cincinatti children hospital
Are the
Top three
Ibd centers for kids in the us

My sister who also lives UAE, was advised to go to Germany or UK for second opinions.

Do you know yet where you are moving to? Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, AKA "Sick Kids Hospital" has a wonderful reputation. Here on the east coast the Isaac Walton Kilam Children's Hospital (IWK) is well known for it's treatment of IBD (Nova Scotia has the honour of the highest IBD in the world. That's great.). But, Canada is big, so I'm sure there's lots of other great treatment centres. I know our docs here work closely with Boston's Mayo Clinic, in the US too.

I don't know how Sick Kids in Toronto compares to the large IBD centres/hospitals in the U.S. but my son was diagnosed at Sick Kids in Toronto. After 2+ months of going back and forth to our ped, running lots of tests and a visit another local hospital's emergency, we finally went to Sick Kids and they tentatively diagnosed with him Crohns within 4 hours! They obviously knew exactly what to look for and quickly ruled out 'easy' answers. They have a large IBD clinic and work with Toronto's Mt. Sinai hospital (another large IBD clinic) in research, studies and when transferring from ped to adult care. I won't say I was 100% happy all the time with how things were done but, I'm sure that can be said about all clinics, GIs, etc. but, overall, I was glad he was being taken care of by them (until he was transferred to Mt. Sinai).
