Hi Guys,
I have a question. Today I had problems with my bags. I leaked twice. Thank goodness my output is very normal stool since my stoma is near the end of my large colon. However, I'm concerned. See, my surgeon explained to me last visit that the only thong I can experience is a hernia. Sometimes air can fill in near my stoma as overtime it can stretch. While I was changing my bags I noticed that all the swelling has gone except for one area. It's on the left side of my stoma. It's swollen quite a bit. It doesn't hurt, and yes its only been jus almost 3wks. So,,should u just wait and see if its jus swelling from the surgery or call the surgeon right away to get it checked??

You should call your surgeon just to play it safe. It is very common to get a hernia with any surgery, and if there is a bulge around your stoma then its best to get it checked out. If its nothing then no harm no foul, but in my opinion a hernia should never be ignored

not necessarily ngng. This hernia that I have now I didn't know I had until I looked in the mirror and saw it

No, doesn't hurt ay all. Kinda like afidz just said. I had no idea until I saw it in the mirror while I was changing the bag.

Last week I had my first ever concern for parastomal hernia. I felt a good sized lump and it was somewhat sore, but it was not visible. It went away after 48 hours. Hopefully yours is not a hernia, though parastomal hernias are very common.

No idea if its a hernia. Dr made it seem that this happens overtime. I'm only 3wks in. That's why I'm stumped as to kno what this buldge really is. When I push down on it it feels alil uncomfortable but not painful.
