Bile Salt Absorption Scan

Hi,
I haven't had this done but would be interested in your results (have you had a T.I. resection?)

The procedure involves swallowing a capsule which contains a small amount of radioactive synthetic bile salt. Three hours later they use a gamma camera to measure radiation levels in your body (you shouldn't have to hang around waiting.) Seven days later they repeat the scan. There should still be some bile salt radioactivity remaining unless you have malabsorption.

Good luck.

I have had Crohns since I was 19 (am 44) now, and been with the same Gastroenterologist for 14 years and this is the first time I have heard of it.
Even with the cocktail of tablets I am on nothing is controlling the diarrhoea, so this test is to see if Bile Salt Malabsorption is the answer
Hopefully it is.

sounds about right, after I had a flare of crohns the number of toilet trips increased so had this test and immediately came back as positive and put straight onto meds.
