Biopsies were positive, but...?

Hello again.

This is something that's been bugging me for a long time, since I got the 'diagnosis' for Crohn's. Even though there was visible inflammation in both my large and small intestine, and the results of the biopsies sent to pathology were consistent with Crohn's, my old doctor had said 'It's highly likely you do have Crohn's but we're still not sure.'

I've started seeing a new doctor, and she's been saying the same thing to me. I don't quite understand. If I have all of the symptoms and positive biopsies and inflammation, why would they still be questioning if I really have it? Is there something I'm missing, or...:ybatty:

Hello Everly,

What is each doctor's reasoning behind their conclusion that they are not sure it is crohns despite positive biopsies and visible inflammation?

How long have you been 'diagnosed'?

Have you had any other testing done (blood work/scans/etc.)?

Their reasoning is because I have such minimal inflammation. They said it's really not enough to cause symptoms. Which is weird to me. And no, I haven't had a scan since I was told there's a possibility of crohns because I can't tolerate the barium. But I've had bloodwork and my sed rate is always a little high when I'm having symptoms, and I had a positive ANA test. I had testing last year, so. That's when they found it. It's just strange for them to keep saying it although I'm having symptoms. Plus I also found out that I have SIBO, but that could be attributed to my Gastroparesis, which they said was mild even though it wasn't at all.

Hi Everly

I am wondering if there is a chance that it could be another form of IBD? Where in your intestines was the inflammation found? If it was in the colon, and only there, could it be Ulcerative Colitis? Docs sometimes have trouble determining which IBD it is if they have to pick between those two.
