:confused2:Grace is having such a hard time holding her bladder. This has happened off and on for years now. I know that it comes a shock to Grace when it happens.

Would it be worth it to get an ultra-sound of the bladder?
Would it show anything?
What kind of bladder problems are common to IBD?

Hi Farmwife. Sorry to hear Grace is having bladder issues :-( It can be very embarassing and distressing. Is she having any pain and /or any cloudiness or bubbles in her urine? If there is inflammation in the bowel near the bladder it can put pressure on it and cause issues or - and I don't mean to scare you - some people develop a fistula to the bladder.
Have you mentioned it to your GI? I would think she would need a dip test to see if she has a UTI or not, and perhaps the GI would organise a baldder scan, MRI or refer you to a urologist.
Poor wee thing, I hope they can get her sorted soon.

Hi Farmwife,
Not an expert here, and haven't managed to join up the information "dots" in my own mind yet..
My first (undiagnosed) brush with CD several years ago was a significant episode or arthritis/iritis/urethritis following a couple of weeks diarrhoea, which would previously have fitted a condition called "Reiter's Syndrome"
So your comments about Grace's bladder symptoms MAY somehow tie in immunologically with the mechanism of Reiter's Synd, or could possibly be a simple urinary infection.
Hopefully one of the forum experts may have some thoughts...
Regardless of the medical detail, wishing you and Grace all the best, and sending a special hug for your little one :)

Hiya I don't really post on here that often but I saw this and i thought I'd reply. By no means am I a expert and I don't want yo worry you I'm just saying my problem that I had. I had a problem similar to what you describe and I started getting pain when I went to they did a ultrasound and a camera they found my bladder and my bowel had joined.

Probably wouldn't hurt to get the ultrasound and rule out some scarier stuff. When Jack and Hubby are having flares they have extreme urgency to pee (hubby more so than Jack) at least with hubby swelling/inflammation presses on the bladder.
When Jack was about 5 he had accidents and it was like he did not know it happened, had no since of having to go, now I wonder if things weren't going on even then.

No, no pain. Can be cloudy. Past history of bubbles.

This is the routine for two years now. I take her to docs and the run a culture on urine sample, which always comes back clear. Then problem goes away. Then the cycle starts again.:yfaint:

I just think an ultra-scan would be good to rule out anything bad......I hope.:confused2:

I think it is definitely worth at least getting a urine dip test to see if she has a urinary tract infection. As I mentioned on the other thread, constipation can cause bladder issues too in little ones...

Definitely worth getting an ultrasound - at least it's a painless test! The bladder is a very sensitive organ - it can get irritated for so many reasons. If Grace still has inflammation near it, then it may pass over into the bladder. Hope it clears soon.
