Hi all, really hoping if someone can give me some advice please. I am not feeling very well - yesterday after lunch I got this unusual pain. Right in between my ribs and down about an inch. It got progressivly worse, then went away after about 2 hours. Today after lunch it has come back - it kind of feels like a hard, pressing pain. It was just niggling me this afternoon but has gotten worse now to the point where I am moaning in pain a bit. A heat pack has helped a little. other symptoms - lots of mucous, and I have only gone to the toilet once today (very unusual for me!)
Does this sound like a blockage to any of you? If it does what can I do?
Thank you for your help!

Girlfriday - pain in that area could be caused by numerous things.. to be on the safe side i really do advise you to go and see a doctor, especially if this is a new symptom for you.

that doesn't mean i think it sounds like a blockage - i just want to make sure you're not ignoring something that needs treatment.

please let us know how you are later on.

Thank you dingbat - I really appreciate you taking the time to answer me! Have you heard of blockage pain occouring in that area or do you think that would be more unusual? One of the things I struggle with the most with this disease, is knowing if something is 'bad enough' to need help or intervention. I guess I just don't want to make a big deal if it's nothing. Problem is I can't tell if this is nothing or not! Dont worry though, I am not trying to get a diagnosis off the internet - if I still have this pain tomorrow I will go to the Dr.

it's ok, you're welcome hun.

it is difficult, i know.. we can't go running to the doctor or hospital with every little thing, and having a diagnosis of something like Crohn's is always going to mean we'll occasionally suffer with some symptom/pain or other..

the rule i live by regarding health issues, and which i try to share with others who are worrying, is that if something happens which isn't 'normal' for you, which your doctor doesn't know about - then go get it checked out.

that particular area you're talking about - the only time i've had pain there was from an ulcer/acid type situation going on, and yes it was painful, went right through to my back.

it may be something similar with you, it may be something else, so i wouldn't leave it. if anything else changes like you start being sick, or your temp rises, don't wait till tomorrow.

hope you're ok soon!

hi girlfriday, ding is right you should see a doctor. but with a normal blockage you would have "overflow" this is diarrhoea like fluid which is squeezing past the blockage. you dont seem to have that so mayb a visit to the doctors is a good idea.
ssharon xx

Definitely get checked out like Ding said. My blockage couldn't be comforted, it hurt too bad to even sleep or anything and did not go away.

Hye Girlfriday! I have had the pains you are talking about, but it's always been from gas...especialy when it's right under my ribcage...that's where it likes to hide out for some reason! But Ding's right, if this is definitely not normal for you, and you've never experienced it, Iwould go to the doc just to be safe. Maybe you can call your GI and see if he can squeeze you in in the next couple of days?

girlfriday, did you ever find out what was going on?

ive never had a blockage. but i have had pain in the area you described, when my esophagus was ulcerated from the crohns.

hope youre doing ok, let us know!

Thanks guys! Really appreciate all the replies. The pain was totally gone the next morning, and has never come back so I didn't go to the Doctor. I have an appointment with my specialist on the 30th of this month though, so I will ask him about it then - it was weird.
kello82 I hope you are feeling as well as can be expected after your surgery!
