Due to increased pain i was recently put on Prednisone, i havent been to the toilet for 2 day now (wich is not my norm) so i suspect that the cause is a blockage.

I just wanted to ask,
does Prednisone help with blockage relief?
Or, is it mostly done by a surgery?

(I will talk to my doctor as soon as i can, i just want ot hear some personal expirience and knowledge)

Tnx

Are you throwing up or nauseous? You might just be constipated, but definitely talk to your doctor. Have you been drinking a lot of fluids? I believe blockages are relieved by surgery, but I am not sure what prednisone will do for it. I'm sure others will chime in on that subject :)

Hi there, unfortunately I have had many blockages and I know the symptoms. As Crohns08 says, nausea and vomiting is a sure sign. Acute pain is the other. You maybe constipated and I would try a glycerin suppository to get it moving. If you continue to be constipated you can cause infection as well. Partial blockage will still make you nauseated. I would stick to a liqquid diet until it starts to move. I have had many acute full blown blockages and they will only do an emergency surgery if in dire straits. It is never a good idea to operate whilist you are infected. Can you feel or get someone to listen and see if your bowels are moving or gurgling. Sounds weird but if there is no noise you could be getting an obstruction. Keep us updated ok? If you have extreme acute pain, go to emergency.

The pain used to be extreme, now it a little bit better.
Lately i do feel nauseous sometimes, escpecially after i take my medicine.
In addition to the pain, im having some gas, and i do hear things move inside (not sure if gas or food). But the sounds can last for 30 mins and more.

My crohns is located on the end of the small intestine and just a bit into the colon, so almost every time i feel pain, i can feel with my hand that, that area is full with food. Unlike in other parts, and this i think means that i have some blockage there.

I am going through the same thing myself, but I just think it is constipation. My doc tells me that I probalby have IBS to go along with my Crohns and symptoms of IBS flip between the two, the big D and the big C. Miralax seems to help me along...

Don't wait to long to talk with you physician you don't want to get into an emergency situation. Better to take care of the problem before you have a full blown blockage. Hope you continue to get relief.

Ive been to the toilet at last

Now i wonder, was it just a constipation or is it a partial blockage :shifty-t:

Partial blockage is really a whole nother level, and I think the difference between that and constipation is distinct.. Nausea, pain, loud stomach noises, etc.

I think you really need to see your Gi, Prednisone "masks" alot and when you taper the pains can come back. Some people constipate on Prednisone but rare. Sounds like to me you are narrowing, and I narrow in that area too. When do you see your doctor next. Please dont let this continue ok. Like Lucy says more harm could be in your future.

I just came from the GI doctor because last week I had a flare up. I went to my family doc and they even did an x-ray to show that I was just really full of "it." My GI doc immediately put me back on Pentasa and for the first time threw Prednisone into the mix, and my family doc put me on Magnesium Citrate that flushed me out last week, but then nothing to follow up with it. I have been 6 days without anything looking like a movement, so when I went into the GI today they prescribed Magnesium Citrate (1-2 bottles) and then to follow up x2/daily with Miralax until I start feeling "normal" again. (I BETTER be 5lbs lighter tomorrow!!!) But while there she also mentioned using a small bottle of Miralax with a bottle of Gatorade to do a similar trick of cleaning me out....I am in dire straits right now, so went for the "good stuff." But will keep that Gatorade/Mira concoction in mind for future issues. The thing she emphasized to me though is if I have been having problems the "flushing out" of my system is great, but to stay on the Miralax consistently for awhile until all systems are moving correctly again. I am a believer!

Just a NOTE: OBVIOUSLY I am not a doctor, nor do I pretend to be one in any such way. So, by all means, check with your doctor!!! :)
