Hello, both of my kids have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease this year. My 14 year old son was diagnosed after getting two perianal fistulas back in April and May and just this week my 18 year old daughter was diagnosed. There are no close relatives that have Crohn's and both their father and I are healthy with no GI symptoms. This is all so overwhelming and unbelievable. Is there anyone else on this forum that have multiple children with IBD but the parents do not?

Crohnsinct has two daughters that have been dxed with CD. Maya142 has two daughter with AS (Anklyosing Spondylitis) and the youngest also has CD. Dusty has a daughter and son with CD. There are others but hopefully these tags will bring those by.

Hi there! Two of my three have Crohn's with no history of Crohns in either family. My nephew was dx'd a little after my girls and no history on either side there either.

Hi and welcome! I do have two daughters that are sick - both have a type of inflammatory arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis. My husband also has it and all three have a particular gene (HLA B27) so we know it is genetic. My younger daughter has Crohn's too (no other Crohn's in the family). It certainly is very overwhelming but on the plus side, they have their own little support group right at home ;).

Hang in there!

Thank you all for replying. It's all so new to me and I've been feeling quite alone in all of this. I have found that there are many others that i can talk to and that's very comforting to know.

It must be tough to see two children suffering with Crohn's. In my family, I was diagnosed with Crohn's and I have a brother with it as well. When the doctor said that I have Crohn's, my mother was in shock since there is no Crohn's history in her family or my father's and yet here is child number 2 with it. Go figure :)
I'm glad that you found this forum. It is a great place for information and support for all that the coming days will bring.

I'm sorry got hear that two of your kids have Crohn's. I have only one, and I know how overwhelming just one with it can be.

So sorry to hear this. I have two sons, but only one with CD. There is no known IBD on either side of the family. Our GI said there is a genetic factor, but in many causes it is environmental factors that trigger the disease. There are many theories as to what those environmental factors are.
I hope you find a treatment plan that works well for both of your kids (you may find different things work for them), and they both find remission soon.

So sorry to hear that your daughter has also been diagnosed with crohns. The most heartbreaking thing for us parents is to see our children struggle. :(

I have a son and daughter as well but only my son has been diagnosed with crohns. But, whether my daughter will ever develop crohns is a constant, niggling worry for me...

FWIW, only my mother's cousin has crohns in our family and she believes it came from her father, who is not a blood relative?? If that is the case, it does not seem that my son inherited it. However, a very close friend's daughter has crohns, as does her nephew, my SIL's (hubby's side) sister has UC, another SIL's (my side) nephew has crohns, two of my son's school friends have crohns... it seems to go on and on! So I do think environmental factors play a big part.

I hope your son is doing well on treatment and hope that your daughter is quickly brought into remission. :ghug:

Ya I guess the environmental factor does come into play. My biggest grief right now is when people say that it's caused by the food that my kids eat. Ugh! if that was the case then most teenagers would have IBD. Then my mind goes to a dark place that says that it's my fault, if i had made sure that our family's diet was better then maybe my kids wouldn't be in this situation. I really have to stop thinking that way and move forward and fight to get them/keep them in remission. Thanks for your reply, it was very helpful.

Hi and welcome Gi-jo mom. Great user name!

My girl is 6 now but dx at 3.
Ya, the food thing gets me too. I wish it was that easy of an answer but it's just out of our hands on what our kids get. I would still have had my girl even if I knew this would happen.

Hang in there mom, your doing a great job!

My non IBd kid eats lots of processed junk typical for teenagers
My IBd kiddo eats all organic non processed food
So go figure he was my healthy eater
Not food

Mommy guilt is a deep, dark corner we all like to visit but our GI assures me it is nothing I did or didn't do.

My oldest, non IBD daughter, was not breast fed, received all her immunizations on schedule, went to day care and got lots of ear infections which I treated with antibiotics, raised in a lead and asbestos infected home. Fed lots of processed convenience food. She is my healthiest kid. No issues what so ever...knock wood...yet!

T, my youngest, was breastfed to 18 months, I pulled apart immunization doses, stay at home mom, no day care, few ear infections for which I denied antibiotics. Doesn't know what McDonald's is....my kid with the most issues ...learning disability, Vitiligo and Crohn's....it is nothing we did or didn't do...just the perfect storm...genes, microbiome and environment.

Welcome to the forum. We currently have one with crohns and two being worked up for stomach issues. It is overwhelming at first but it does get better.
