Breastfeeding whilst Being on infliximab?

Hi, I am 15wks pregnant and have Crohn's disease, I want to breastfeed after I give birth but unsure if I can do this whilst being on the infliximab infusion. Hope someone can help me as I'm quite confused on what to do.

Hi Suzy and welcome to the community Prior studies showcased that Infliximab was not present in breast milk. However, a newer study seen here found the following:

CONCLUSIONS:

In contrast with prior reports, infliximab can be detected in the breast milk of nursing mothers. The miniscule amounts of infliximab transferred in breast milk are unlikely to result in systemic immune-suppression of the infant. Nonetheless, local effects of this exposure on the neonates' intestine and potential immune sensitization or tolerization towards the drug can not be excluded and merit further investigations.

My suggestion would be to print out that entire study I linked to and take it with you to your doctor so the two of you can figure out what is best for you and your baby given your specific situation.
