I'm diagnosed with Morbus Crohn and I'm taking azathioprin, which prevented flare ups for over 5 years.

So my my colprotectin is above 1800 mg/kg.

I only had two flare ups and then the colprotectin was only around 400. And I'm not even sure if this is a flare-up since I have no diarrhea. Actually it's actually more like constipation. And I have cramps.

So my question is: Is this a flare up if calprotectin is that hight? Even without any diarrhea?

My doctor doesn't know so I'll check with a specialist. But I'd like to know what others have experienced.

Hai Claude,

You don't have to have diarrhea to have such a high score! Your Crohns is probably active in the small bowel and not in the large one so that one can just do its job.

When I have a score of +1800 (which is often I am sorry to say) I almost always have normal BM that are indeed closer to constipation.

So don't think it was an of test or anything! Yes it is not really common but it does happen! So it is good you get looked at by a specialist.

Hope you will feel better soon!

My son's calprotectin at its highest was 1700+ and at that time he was asymptomatic. His active disease was located in his TI at his IC valve at the time.

He had no D and was tending toward C at the time.

Thank's for your replies.
They think it is a flare-up. So I'll be taking steroids now. And they'll do a colonoscopy next week.

At least I don't have diarrhea.

My daughter's was just over 2,000 and she was having pain, but no diarrhea. Her's is in small bowel & ic valve.

That was her first ever calprotectin test, and I really didn't realize how high that number seemed until I started reading some posts on here. She is newly diagnosed and just had her first Remicade treatment last week.

Is over 2,000 crazy high?!

1800 is definitely a high value, it's good that you are going to have a colonoscopy soon, maybe they recommend MRI if they can't see any inflammation via scope.
My GP is still of the opinion that calprotectin below 1000 is related to food allergies and would like to test more and more foods... Weird GP.
