Hi Guys-
I've suffered from constipation my ENTRIE life!
about 1.5 years ago I went to a GI because I had chronic diarrhia and constipation. I also suffred from some stomach attacks He ran a calprotectin test and my levels were high. He did a colonoscopy and found nothing so he dismissed me as having IBS :ymad: .
I recently went to another GI because I still have occasional constipation (even though i'm on mirilax) and i get stomach attacks (constipation, diahria, sweats, shortness of breath, contractions, pain, the whole shabang). He ordered another fecal calprotectin test. I'm afraid the results will be normal because i'm not constantly exhibiting symptoms. Will that affect my test? Can My results still be high Even though I only get attacks every so often?
Please help! I'm desperetly looking for an answer! Please! :confused2::confused2::confused2::confused2:

Fecal calprotectin stool tests test the level of inflammation in your bowels. So is someone who had CD or UC tested while in remission there results would be lower, closer to normal or normal.

Since you can have inflammation and not exhibit symptoms then the fecal calprotectin could still come back high. It really depends on what the source of your issues are and if there is inflammation present when you have the test.

A high result means it needs to be investigated further since there are several things that can cause inflammation in your bowels.

Regardless of the result of the fecal calprotectin I would push for more tests if you are having GI issues. You could ask for a CT scan, MRI, MRE colonoscopy/endoscopy and check your inflammation markers in your blood work. Just keep pushing for answers.

When will you get your results Alybaly?

My situation sounds similar. I have been told ibs for years. Then my gp told me to hand in a stool sample to test the calprotectin levels and she told me Friday it came back high. Do you know what you number was the first time around? I forgot to ask. I'm being scheduled for a colonoscopy and I really hope it's been a false positive or something. I'm feeling really worried as I don't feel I have diarrheah multiple times per day. I have been alternating constipation and diarrheah.
