Hello

I had the trial camera pill today (my god it was the size of a tampon) managed eventualy to swallow it and go back tomorrow for xray to see if it has passed through.

Has anyone else had this done?

I have been to the toilet 3 times since i swallowed it and nothing has come out yet. ( i have constant diahrea)

If anyone has had this and they noticed it come out how long did it take i am hoping i wont have to go back for xray tomorrow.

Other question i have is did you notice increased pain?
I get awful pains under my left rib and in the last hour (took pill at 9am) pain has intensified wondered if it passing through the inflammed part?

If it does go through have the real pill at the end of the month. if it dosn't then more scans.

Hope someone can help.

Love Dawn xx

Dawn - I had a capsule endoscopy about 1 year ago and had to do the pateny capsule 1st. The size of a tampon? ROFL. That explains my difficulty swallowing the bloody thing - the string kept getting caught on my dental work :D

Actually, both pill & camera went down easily. I wasn't having any diarrhea at the time, and I passed the test capsule the next morning, about 24 hours after taking it. I was able to "retrieve the capsule after splash-down" (just as in those old NASA videos only without all the parachutes & helicopters... ) and thereby avoided any followup x-rays. Same with the camera.

I would guess it's quite likely the pain you are experiencing is the patency capsule passing through some inflammation. Remember, the reason for taking this one 1st is it is designed to break apart should it become entrapped anywhere, but of course, if you have severe or prolonged pain, you should contact your doc or go to the ER.

If you're interested in seeing a pic of the actual camera next to a 500mg acetaminophen capsule (or paracetamol, as you guys call it) see the 3rd post on this thread http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?p=221833#post221833

Hope this info helps and everything goes well! :)

BTW, is Milton Keynes related to Maynard Keynes?

Hi Dawn!

I'm kind of jealous you get the capsule cam! What hospital do you go to? I don't live all that far from you at all.

I wouldn't worry too much about how long it's taking to come out. I once stupidly swallowed a tongue bar ball and it took exactly a week to show itself. (Don't worry.. I didn't use it again after that)

Good luck with it though. Let us know how it goes.

Dawn please let us know if and when you pass it...
I do hope everything comes out alright. :thumleft:

Also thanks to David for posting the pic of the capsule cam!
I have never had one and had no idea how large it was.
Doesn't look to be to hard to swallow....depending on your gag reflex I guess.
Very useful information.

Glad you could join us Dawn.

Hugs and welcome~Nancy

Hello and thanks for replying.

Maynard Keynes? sorry not in this country. (i live in England).

It is now 14hrs since i took it and it has not appeared lol.

I still have awfl pains under my left rib area so i presume it rbbing its way through some inflammation points???

The hosp i am at is The Royal Free in Hampstead London. they are the only hosp that does this test most local to me.

I dont use local hosp as they have messed me about for 2 yrs so i asked for a referral last jan and these guys are wonderfull.

I promise to let you know what happens tomorrow xx

I heard that MK General is better than the L&D which is my local. But I don't go there for my Crohn's so it's ok!

Did they say how long it's expected to come through?

Haha I won't even go into the horrors I've experienced at the L&D then.

I got referred to Great Ormond Street when I was about 11/12 and then when I got too old to go there, I moved to St Marks in Harrow. It's part of Northwick Park. They are a specialist hospital which is nice.

Hi Misty

My Aunt used to work at Northwick park hosp xx.

Hello Everyone

Well i went for xray and the radiologist said it was still inside my small bowel and didn't know if it was stuck!!!

Came home very deflated thought i had missed my chance but WAIT at 2.50pm i gave birth (to the capsle) whew what a relief :rof:.

I qickly phoned the gastro team secretary and she couldn't stop laughing at me as i was so excited lol.

So it's green light to go for the real one at the end of the month xxxx

She would probably know all about St Marks then. One of my friends from uni works there and I bumped into him in the car park yesterday after my colonoscopy lol.

Sooo happy that you passed it though!! Yey! Good look with the real one :)
