Im a little confused! A few months ago I began to understand what I could and couldn't eat. After been diagnosed in Aug I began to tell what caused cramps and diaherra. Well I was dreding christmas with all those nice fatty foods and can't believe how much and what I have eaten with no effect at all! Sprouts, christmas cake, christmas pudding, cream, trifle, pork pie, beef, chocolate! Of course still not been told whether I have Crohns or Colitis, only know its IBD mainly in my rectum. I wonder if my symptoms come on through stress, as I have been quite chilled over christmas. The only other thing i thought it could be was mastic gum what I take every day after been diagnosed with helicobacter pylori!! Can anyone else eat what they want?

Hey Lara,
I've been diagnosed with Crohns colitis for a few years, and I find the food thing pretty tricky, because I can't pinpoint foods yet. I know coffee bothers me...but that's the only thing I'm really sure about. I have been trying to reduce caffeine, alcohol, raw veg, gluten and dairy in my diet mainly to see if this would help my current flare (which it didn't seem to matter, I guess to my body a flare is a flare is a flare is a flare). Anyway, I've been having loads of dairy (mainly milk, cheese, chocolate), and have had regular caffeinated tea often, and even chanced a few glasses of white wine over the holidays. I didn't feel worse after this. So, I'm not sure myself. I feel in the same boat as yourself! I think it's just trial and error, but I don't seem to have too many errors, so it just makes me wonder if I can pretty much eat anything. Best of luck!

I have found that stress is definitely my biggest trigger. And I can eat pretty much whatever I want...in moderation. ie, I cannot eat raw veggies more than a couple times a week. Same for tomato based sauces. When I feel a flare up coming on I can sometimes stop it by going to a low residue diet. Keeping a food/mood journal can help you determine what your triggers are. Like McStew said, it's definitely trial & error bc everyone is different. You know your body & you will figure it out! Good luck! :)

Hi , when i was in a flare my diet was quite restricted. At the moment i can eat most things. I stay away from milk , tomato sauces and eggs as they dont agree with me and more than 1 coffee a day is a no go too. Other than that im quite suprised by how much i can eat these days. Although sprouts on christmas day caused me a great deal of pain.

I find there are some things I can never eat sweet corn, peas, tomatoes, pizza, caffeine, alcohol, eggs and many other things I can't think of now but my symptoms do get worse with stress and when I get stressed I find it hard to stomach anything even water.
I'm glad you felt more relaxed over the holidays and was able to enjoy all the lovely foods. I ate so much on christmas day ( my first in 3 years because of crohns) and it was amazing... But come boxing day I felt the effects of all the food I had eaten but it was worth it lol.

Wow, a lot of us can't eat eggs! I also can't eat corn or veg that is raw. I miss salad! I can drink coffee, yay me! For me, it is mostly about moderation. I over eat and I pay dearly!

Interesting, I have never had a problem with eggs. I am one of the people that can actually eat anything I want.
