can colon inflamation be something other than IBD?

I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy last week due to severe abdominal pain and gas. The endoscopy reveled a hiatal hernia. the colonoscopy revealed slight diverticulosis and erythematous mucosa in the terminal ileum, assending colon and sigmoid colon. The inflamation does not look bad compared to the pictures I have seen on the internet. Also, there are small red patches on one part of the picture (kindof like when you slightly scrape your knee).

The doctor seems to think I am all clear. I asked him directly when I woke up from the procedure if he found signs of Crohn's or Colidas. He said he thinks I am all clear. Then I asked him if there was inflamation and he said, yes a little. This is before I saw the pictures for myself.

He took biopsy's of the areas that had erythematous mucosa. I am waiting for the results. In the meanwhile, this is driving me crazy. My question is, can there be other factors for colon/intestine inflamation other than IBD? Based on the internet research I have done, it seems that colon/intestine inflamation is always linked to IBD.

You can have inflammation from sensitivity to foods or other issues (i.e., infections, etc). so it is possible I think prolonged inflammation begins disease....personal opinion.

Apparently you can also have this same signs from the Prep for the colonoscopy. I was told this at my last test 6 months ago. The GI said that even though it looked like colitis it was probably the prep causing the red patches.
If so why am i in pain every day and why did he perscribe Asacol for me ,which i am still on?

Pvali, did they take a biopsy of the red patches? If so, did the results come back normal?

jaz, yes apparently they did. They came back and i perscribed Asacol and now amitriptyline for pain. So in my opinion there was some inflamation otherwise why would I be given these drugs,
i have a review this friday with a GI so hopefully some progress will be made,
