I have been reading posts on here and some people are saying not to take ibuprofen, why not? My son's GI has never said anything about not taking it and I have given it to my son when he had a headache. Tylenol doesn't seem to work as well as ibuprofen.

Also some I read some kids are taking multivitamins, my son's GI has only said anything about my son taking iron and vitamin D. Should I try a multivitamin? I've seen some kids take centrum for teens but I can't find that at stores around here so where do you get them at?

thanks

Ibuprofen can cause ulcers and bleeding in a normal gut.
Crohn's guts are more suspectible so no ibuprofen.

Our gi has said only in an emergency situation could DS have it .

Shopko and Walmart have the centrum multi for teen boys. They didn't say anything to me about multi but we're like can't hurt when I said I was giving it to him. Dr. Ellison talked about ibuprofen during first visit. Ib always call the nurses and they get right back to me if I have question or send a message through mychartand Dr calls usually after hours though

Goodness, you mention ibuprofen to our nurse snd you think the world was ending. I think it's frowned upon especially when flaring. With that being said, Tylenol sucks for pain and if my daughter needs something more for psin, I give her ibuprofen. It can't be much worse than ruining the liver with tons of Tylenol in my opinion.

What I was told is that ibuprofen is considered a "blood thinner" and if there is any possibility of internal bleeding (common w/ IBD) then ibuprofen could make the bleeding worse. That is part of why people are told to not take ibuprofen 7 days before a scheduled surgery.

Yeh NSAIDs can irritate the linings, although I've been told that you can use ibuprofen gel as this is topical and will not make its way to the intestines.

With multi-vits I think they are just a waste of money. A normal healthy diet will give enough vitamins needed, and any more will at best just pass through the body. Too much of others can actually make you ill.

I think you should be going by blood tests to see which vitamins (if any) are lacking.

Thanks for all the info on ibuprofen, I really didn't know he couldn't have it. I will no longer be giving it to him and now I need to go by some Tylenol to have on hand.

We still use rubs that have NSAID's in it. We were also told it wouldn't make it's way to the track. Grace's joint pains are so bad at times the Tylenol wouldn't do a thing.

We don't use ibuprofen per GI's orders either, but when DS had his resection, they were giving it to him in the hospital. Of course he was continuously being monitored, but we were allowed to use it for one week after we got home as well. Thankfully we didn't need it, Tylenol worked just fine. My point is that there are some situations where it may be used.

I find tiger balm (a menthol rub) to have much better results than paracetamols etc, especially on the stomach or sore muscles

My GI said NO to any NSAIDs. He prescribed me Tylenol with codeine for pain. He also suggested a B-Complex pill, not multi vitamins. I had a nasty ulcer before I found out I had Crohn's. That treatment is no fun!!
