Just wondering if there is a link between having IBD and muscular pain. I've been getting a lot of muscular pain in my whole back and yesterday the muscles in the arch of both my feet started to spasm (not sure if this is plantar fasciitis, tendonitis or what). Also what painkillers can I take for muscular pain because I know I'm not allowed NSAID's.

Personally, I do. I get rib and shoulder pain when I'm flaring. I think instead if it being directly from IBD, it's due to the various deficiencies that IBD can cause.

You can take Tylenol (acetaminophen), because it's not an NSAID.

I take paracetamol (Tylenol) regularly but it doesn't quite cut it for me. I think many hot baths and hot water bottles is the way forward!

I'm the same way. I find Tylenol doesn't pack a punch like NSAIDs do. It sucks not being able to take them!

Heat or ice are definitely good. It all depends which one works for you. I also find that stretching and gentle massage helps a lot! If you haven't already, epsom salts in a bath or foot soak might help as well.

Thanks I'll give all that a try, gotta be worth a shot. It really does suck not being able to take NSAID's! I get a lot of headaches from muscular pain in my neck and ibuprofen was the only thing that helped.

I definitely do. I've read a lot here from people with arthritis but although my joints do ache a bit at times, I feel it's more my muscles and tendons.

Magnesium deficiency can cause it I believe. If you're having hot baths, try Epsom salts or just plain magnesium flakes.

MirrorBride, I get rib pain too, especially when I bend over (never try to get under the bar to go down a childrens playground slide) or if I have to strain on the toilet. Does that happen to you?

GlasgowGirl86, I also get muscle pains and keep meaning to take the magnesium supplements.
