My son has developed a canker sore on his top gum. He is due for Remicade this week. Do we need to postpone the infusion? And does anyone have a good home remedy to help heal it up quickly?

Thanks!

Sorry no idea about the Remicade, but my mom always recommends rinsing the mouth with warm salt water (I boil water and let it cool) to help the canker sore.

DS has had mouth ulcers while he was getting infusions of remicade .
It was never something we were told would be an issue.
He has also gotten an infusion while on abx .

I would just ask your Gi if it something they are concerned with kwim
Since every doc is different.

Yes, I'm calling the gi tomorrow. Just was curious if anyone had dealt with this. My son seems to get cold sores shortly after infusions and they go away after about 5 days. I dislike all of these, but being in remission is worth a few days of mouth sores (or at least that's what my sons says).

Has he tried Magic mouthwash?
Poor Grace gets mouth ulcers. Very painful.
The ER doc gave us a rx for this mouth wash.
We love it and it works great.

We use soluble predisolone as a mouth wash here. No experience of infusions though. All I know is that ulcers are a constant battle for my ds, remission or no remission! X

I don't see a reason to postpone the remicade infusion for the mouth sores, but worth running it by the GI. Alex would get them on occasion too. His GI recommended mixing a teaspoon of liquid benadryl with a teaspoon of maalox, then rinse and spit, a couple times/day, it helped a lot.

This is coming way after your original post, but in case anyone is here via search for some reason...

I used to have canker sores all the time -- several at a time, flaring every few weeks. Remicade actually helped them a lot. When it stopped working, that was our first clue that I'd become allergic to it.

Prednisone also wiped them out for me.

When my colon was removed in 2013 I stopped taking prednisone. For some reason, the canker sores have never come back as bad as they were before. Weird.
