Hi everyone, just asking a general question i have stopped going to the toliet, been have frequent diareah for months now and all of a sudden it has just come to a standstill, i am currently taking senna to help but it has not worked yet, when i need to go the toliet i push and watery stuff comes out with some blood but now bowel movement, what do you suggest i do?, i have a endoscopy and i no your bowels need to be clear. I am getting alot of pain in my lower tummy but dont understand why it has just suddenly stopped, i havent eaten anything different either to make this happen.

Blockage is always a concern and can be serious not to mention blood is never a good thing. You should contact your GI right away and don't leave out any of your symptoms cause even things like fatigue are important.

After reading about Senna, here's what I found:
If you have any of the following symptoms, stop taking stimulant laxatives and call your doctor immediately:
*bloody stools
*severe cramping
*pain
*weakness
*dizziness
*unusual tiredness
*rectal bleeding

I've always been told not to take senna. It's a stimulating laxative which is a bad idea for us. I think it's (rarely) possible to cause ruptures.
Lubricating laxatives and bulking agents are a better suggestion.

Maybe thats why i had blood in my stool sample that i sent it then like bright blood, i just dont understand why it just stopped straight away but i will have to call first thing monday morning and let her no whats been going on what laxative do you guys take if you are contipaTED?

How long since you've been?

If you are really constipated you can get what is called constipation with overflow and it presents as small amounts of very liquid faeces when you try to open your bowels, sometimes with mucous and blood. If this is the case it would be best to seek medical advice.

Wednesday i no its only been 2 days but for me to go for months and months with diareah everyday and then it suddenly stops its just a mystery, i will have to call my GI up on monday as i cant get hold of her the weekend now

The general rule of thumb that most doctors go by is that anything less than 3 days is fine. Anything longer (accompanied with a stop in passing gas) may be an issue.

Miralax/Movicol is what is generally given out by the docs to lubricate things, but I've occasionally heard of enemas for swifter relief.

Hey Porter,
I was the same way - lots of diarreah and then BAM....nothing. I went for 11 days without anything and my nurse practitioner suggested I use cenecot or laxidate...it is a natural laxitive. DRINK LOTS and LOTS OF WATER as well and stay away from caffiene.
When I did take something, it came out really watery and very little. Eventually I was passing solid which hurt and ribbon like but it relieved the pressure in my stomach. Then I only drank liquids for awhile.

Hope you get some relief soon :)

Hey all so i went to walk in centre today and saw a GP, she has advised me to not eat anything solid until i speak to my GI monday when i call her up as it could be a blockage, she has told me to take senna and lactulose also to see if this helps although i very much doubt it. Not in the mood!!!!!!!!!!

First- call you doctor. But in the mean time, I would strongly recommend Miralax. It's gentle and works pretty quickly. Hope you start to get feel better!

Let us know. I hope it isn't a blockage as I've heard from people on here that they aren't fun.

So got hold of my Gi today and am going to A&E tomorrow morning as she said i may need to be admitted and put on a drip and maybe some enemas to help me to go.

Thinking of you porter. I hope everything turns out OK and the enemas do the trick.

Best of luck and (((HUGS))),
Dusty
