Im fairly newly diagnosed and I was diagnosed in the summer, so up til now this hasn't been an issue. I lived in yoga pants/cotton shorts for the warm weather. I recently moved to North Texas and now its getting colder.

Problem is, between bloating and prednisone i have significant swelling/weight gain/bloat/whatever centered in my abdomen. So jeans arent working really well for me. My legs and hips are mostly the same size as before so if I buy to accomodate the belly, then theyre too loose elsewhere. Very frustrating.

Short of maternity pants, which i am considering at this point, has anyone found a better option? Sweatpants look too... casual for lack of a better term for things outside the house i feel but may have to adjust I guess. Im just wondering what others have done in similar situations?

Can you wear dresses or skirts with leggings underneath? I find leggings really comfy, especially if I'm bloated or if my tummy is sore.

I recently managed to find a pair of jeggings too which are really comfy as they're soft and stretchy, they're a good fit round my legs but are loose enough around my waist to need a belt, which I can adjust as needed. I think maybe a case of trying on some jeans or jeggins and finding some that are loose enough around the waist but not so loose around the legs. I know they're hard to find but they do exist. Maternity jeans wouldn't be a bad choice either, especially the ones with the adjustable bits on them so you can adjust to the size you need as things change.

I had some good maternity jeans when i had my kids, i really am thinking they might be a good option for me now ... theyd at least be comfortable and if I get long enough shirts theres no real way to tell..... will try the leggings though

I live in leggings a lot of the time. To look less casual, I wear a dress over them, and have found some leggings that look more like tights. Especially if they're black, they don't look all that casual, and you can choose a dress and shoes that makes up for what the leggings may lack in smartness. A dress is a lot easier than a skirt because it doesn't have to fit round your middle.

If i have to wear jeans I try to find one size higher and make sure they can stretch. Its funny when try them on i pull on the top of the pants just to make sure they get stretch.

I keep a pair of jeans with elastic waistband for those times when I have inflammation, so I can work if the pain is tolerable. There have been times they have been handy.

I have come to accept leggings....I loathed the thought of them before, but depending on the day and what I eat for lunch when I'm at work, I can get really bloated after I eat. I've kinda just sucked it up too, with pants that may be a size too big, but fit comfortably by the middle/end of day.

I was also on a high dose of Predinsone for a while, so I am dealing with the weight gain, accompanied by the bloating and I'm too stubborn to spend money on clothing when I know I'll be losing the weight.:p

Leggings are your best bet though.

gonna have to get something cause doc says that it can take 3-6 months before the Azathioprine is effective and we cant stop the steroids for a bit longer :/

I also have a couple of "magic belts" - they're elastic so they don't have to go through belt straps. Then you can buy trousers or skirts that are a size or two bigger than you need them normally and the belt will keep them up, then when you're more bloated, they'll still fit comfortably.
