Does anyone else get cold sores? I have gotten them since as long as I can remember. Wondering if it's an immunodeficiency?

I do get them, once a year or twice maybe. For me, the trigger is not related to my CD but to hormones or period of intense anxiety. I know people that are perfectly healthy that have them nearly every months.

I never had cold sores, but during the great "Flare of 2010" my mouth was full of canker sores - more than 10 at a time - and it was impossible to talk, eat or do anything without a huge amount of pain. It went away and I haven't had any since, despite my colon being in worse shape than in 2013 (ultimately leading to a proctocolectomy).

Yes, I get cold sores, not only on my lips but sometimes in my nose too - there are a few other threads about it. When I was a child I got them all over my mouth during one episode - thankfully not since. I did have a nose full of them after a nasty bout of strep a few years ago too, but usually I get them one or two at a time.

I hadn't had a breakout in years, then all of a sudden when this pain started I had 2 breakouts within 2 months. Starting to wonder if there is a connection

Most people are exposed to Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) before the age of 5 and it remains a lifelong infection. For some people it lays dormant and never activates, I have never had a cold sore nor have my kids but my husband suffers with them. For others the virus takes the course of laying dormant until it sees the perfect opportunity to strike and this is usually happens if you are run down, stressed/anxious, get sunburnt or are immunosuppressed. :(

I get Cold Sores, my Mum thinks that I caught them from one of my Grandmothers when I was really little.
I used to get them all the time, a few years ago one even stuck around for a good 4 months. But *touch wood* I haven't had any for ages!

Herpes simplex virus is not a immuno-deficency, or auto-immune disease, its a virus thats one can get by being in direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person.
its important to make the difference between herpes simplex Virus and CD ulcers in the mouth, lips... They can really look alike and have similar history. Its easy to make the diagnosis with a lesion sample at any doctors office.

with herpes, it usually starts with a major first outbreak at primo-infection (when you get infected by the virus- this could be from a kiss or sexual contact) The subsequent relapses are usually more minor. The severity and occurence tends to lower over years and in many cases even become completly asymptomatic. However, even if a person becomes asymptomatic, caution remains as the virus comes back to skin a few days a year without causing visible lesions. This is called asymptomatic excretion (french term). At this moment, the person can be contagious without knowing it, and infection by the virus is possible.

stress, hormones changes (in women, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, giving birth, etc) can trigger flares.
