Collapsed descending colon?

Hi everyone,

I've just had a copy of the letter that my consultant sent to my GP. I went for a check up a couple of months ago as I suffer from crohns disease and had had a barium meal and follow through. At my appointment, the doctor said the test had shown no problems with my small intestine, and left it at that.

In this letter it says that the barium meal and follow through didn't show any abnormalities although there was a comment made about the state of the descending colon, which appeared collapsed with loss of haustrations.
None of this was mentioned to me at my check up, and now i'm quite worried as to what it means for me. He hasn't said anything in the letter other than he wants me to have another colonoscopy at some point to assess my disease.

Can anyone shed any light on what a collapsed descending colon would mean for me? And could it explain why I am still being sick?
Thanks
Lisa x

I have not heard that therm before! I would be asking questions if I didn't understand! Good luck finding out :)

I have not heard of that as well Lisa - sounds strange. I would certainly get on the phone at least and ask some questions! I just ordered my medical records for the past 13 years and found out some interesting things that weren't told to me as well. Like the fact that my doc told me I had 6 inches of bowel removed at surgery and the surgery reports says one foot! Good idea to get copies of your reports, but, sometimes it can make us worry for nothing. Hopefully this won't be a serious thing that someone just missed! Let us know.

Thanks guys, I will certainly be asking questions, the main one being why wasn't I told in my follow up appt about it!! Hope its nothing serious, but it does sound bad :-( x

Good luck with finding out, it really is better if they draw pictures for us instead of keeping us in the dark. At least we know what we up against then!
Keep us posted.
