Several times I've had CT's, MRI's (MRA's) and they always revealed a good deal of inflammation; however, whenever a scope is performed, nothing is found. My G.I. believes that said inflammation lies outside of the bowel/colon and wants to have a surgical biopsy done. Has anyone ever had this problem or had this procedure done?

I just spent six days in the hospital due to an exacerbation while receiving medicine but no definitive answer in regards to the issue of the CT's findings vs. the negative revealings of the colonoscopy.

I had a clear colonoscopy before my surgery in September, and an MRI which confirmed that I had a fistula but they didn't mention inflammation at that point. It's when they went in to treat the fistula that they discovered it in the TI area and removed the IC valve and caecum because of it.
I've had four colonoscopies now and they've never managed to get beyond the valve and they've taken biopsies during them all. But as your inflammation is not showing in that test, have they said how they are going to do the biopsy?

I've got to have a follow-up visit with my G.I. and then I'll be sent to the surgeon, but all he could tell me was that they make a laparoscopic incision and then take a sample of tissue from the outside of my colon. I will definitely get a better in-depth description after I see the surgeon. :)

By the way, this time last year, I had been diagnosed with an abscess and fistula, and just discovered a few days ago that I have to go back in consecutive visits scheduled over several months to allow for gradually smaller bands to allow said fistula to close and heal. Bad news, if it doesn't heal...I'm headed for a major belly surgery, and this was from a colo-rectal surgeon. :(

:( Oh no, is a perianal abscess/fistula? When you say bands, is it setons for draining? Mine was intestinal and wouldn't heal on meds.
Have you been tried on Remicade?
