I am wondering if anyone has experience with a colonoscopy after hysterectomy?

I have had colonoscopies previously, but my upcoming scope in August will be the first one I've had since the hysterectomy a couple years ago.

I read that having a colonoscopy is much more painful and difficult after a hysterectomy due to the bowels relocating in the space where the uterus used to be and I am now nervous about having it done.

I would appreciate hearing from others about their experience with a scope after hysterectomy. Thank you.

I had hysterectomy 13 years ago, had my very first colonoscopy in January this year- I remember nothing from it - sedation was obviously spot on!

Good luck for yours

Thank you so much for the response Morag :)

I am so glad to hear it went well for you and wasn't painful; that's fantastic news!

I've had 3 colonoscopies after my hysterectomy and I never once experienced any issues. Please don't be scared/stressed, I have never heard of anything happening due to your scenario. My mom has a colonoscopy every year for the last 15 yrs due to her mother getting Colon Cancer.

Good luck!!

Hi Ali29,

Thank you for the reply and information :) it' efinitely helps to hear from others that it shouldn't be an issue :). Hope you are doing ok.

Hi Morag, thank you for asking. Unfortunately, I got bumped and am waiting for a new date. The receptionist said she is also going to ask the GI if I can do the other prep that I originally hoped to use.

So, here's my update for anyone who's interested: I had the scope last month and was told that it was difficult to do due to extensive adhesions. I remember nothing, so that's good. Biopsies came back fine, prep was "fair to good". Which confuses me because I did the prep exactly as instructed and actually fainted at hospital because I was dehydrated from prep, even with drinking lots of fluids. I see GI next month to see what's next, if anything. Edit to add: I did get bumped from morning spot to end of day due to emergency, so maybe that affected the prep?

My family Dr says still thinks it is Crohn's because of prev diagnosis via scope years ago, all my symptoms, and also, said especially since recent blood work showed b12 & ferritin still decreasing, even with supplements. My family doctor also said other blood labs are pointing to malabsorption of fats. Also, recently discovered that the major pain & nausea had recently was probably kidney stones (urine test came back showing calcium oxalate and hematuria). My doctor said he is going to order some more tests, but don't remember what he said they were.

I sure hope they can figure out what's going on with me soon.
