Hi I'm new to this. I decided to join cos every tine I searched for info about crohns on the net this forum came up. Anything I was worried about it seemed others were going through it and it was a great comfort to know someone out there understands!!

Anyway I have a colonoscopy in the morning, just finished the "scrumptious" moviprep. My question is this...doctors are 95% sure I have crohns, is there anyone out there who was told they had crohns but it turned out to be something different??

Hi lolo and :welcome:

It's a good thing that you are having a colonoscopy to get a definite diagnosis so that they can then target treatment to the disease.

I was diagnosed after an emergency, so can't help you with your question, but I'm sure that someone will come on and answer.

Good luck with the colonoscopy. Once you finish the prep, the hard part is done.
Did you have any other tests - CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, blood work- done that points to the Crohn's diagnosis?
By the way, welcome to the forum. It's a great place to be!

Make sure they take biopsies while they're in there! This will help you get a concrete diagnosis (honestly what's the point in have a scope with no biopsies taken, might as well have an MRI instead, I say that cause some people have no biopsies taken just because things look fine once the doctor's in there). Good luck with the scope and if you don't get a diagnosis right away, don't give up! Keep having tests done. I had just about every test done under the sun for 3 months straight (I was hospitalized so was able to do test after test) before I finally got a diagnosis. Keep us posted lolo!

Hi
Colonoscopy a was very painful the sedation didn't seem to work very well for me. Anyway he took biopsies. He still thinks crohns but only one are seems damaged around the terminal ileum. I have to have resection surgery in that area. About 20 cm of bowel to be removed. Had anyone out there had that type of surgery? How long is the recovery? I am very down about it all as I have 5 month old baby and I won't be able to look after her properly. I'm so exhausted everyday. Does the tiredness improve when this disease us under control?
Thanks.....so weary of it all

Hi lolo - sorry the sedation didn't work for you :(

I had to have a resection in my TI a couple of years back and it was about 30cm of intestine to be removed. It was done laparascopically and I was out of the hospital in less than a week - would have been sooner but they forgot to take me off morphine for two days and only found out when the surgeon came around himself to check on me. I improved leaps and bounds after the surgery though and I was so, so happy - put on weight, started running around like a wild animal again etc. Tiredness in Crohn's definitely improves once we've gotten ourselves under control, though.

Hope I helped even just a little bit, and good luck with your surgery. Hope you can get some of that energy back soon :(

I had a double dosage of the sedative during my last colonoscopy and it didn't do anything to me....very painful.

I don't know much about resections but I am very sorry to hear that you have to go through that procedure...is there any way around it or is the area too damaged already?

The fatigue will dissipate once you find remission. I feel like an 80 year old when I'm flaring, but once the flaring stops the fatigue should go away. Good luck and good health to you...

Thank you so much that's good to know tiredness goes away for a while. No meds either unless it returns to affect a different part of bowel after surgery. Good to know the surgery mite not be open surgery.

Many people on the forum have had resections lolo. If you have the time you can read about other people's surgery experiences in this thread (mine is there as well): http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=30212 If it is Crohn's then going on medication to help keep you in remission might be best so you can do your best to avoid surgery again in the future. Keep us posted on the upcoming surgery. :)
