Hello all, I had 2 failed colonoscopies in the summer and I need advice! I have Crohn's of the terminal ileum and possibly more (TBD). My specialist wants me to consider surgery and/or Remicade but only after a proper inspection (I haven't had a colonoscopy since 2004 - which is when I was diagnosed). Been on 9mg Entocort for a year now.

I did the prep as required TWICE and both times he said I had way too much fecal matter and he could not do the procedure. It was really hard on me to do the prep twice but I don't want to make any big decisions without having a proper check up you know?

So, any tips or tricks? Should I pay someone to irrigate my bowels in a private clinic or something as well as do the starving/flushing prep? Help!

Thank you!

Which prep has the doctor given you to take?

It may be that you need a different one, and/or need to take in more fluids to allow everything to be 'washed out'.....also try eating a lighter meal at least a few days in advance of the prep to allow for less fecal matter to be in your system.....

Which prep did you use ?
Were you peeing Mountain Dew out your bum ?
That is what it's suppose to look like

I've done both Kleen Prep and another similar prep agent, thinking one would be better than another. I also ate small meals leading up to when I had to have the final small meal before beginning the prep. I did "mountain dew out my bum" yes, but it didn't seem enough I guess. I was in the bathroom constantly both times and was convinced the second time it was all good, but it wasn't. I got to the point of "peeing" out clear fluid, so I have no idea what happened :(

Does anyone have exp with getting a colonic cleanse/hydrotherapy before beginning the recommended prep as an insurance that it will be all cleaned out?

Are you starting the prep diet a week before your colonoscopy. I can't find the exact diet and prep I did but I have found an similar example on the UK NHS website if you google "colonoscopy prep UK" (sorry I can't post the link on here yet!)

I followed it to the letter and even stopped eating 12 hrs before they suggested I did to be safe, and had lots and lots of liquid to keep the hunger away. I had a very successful colonoscopy and no problem with fecal matter. Perhaps you can try this to see if it works? Good luck!

I would definitely do the the diet longer before the event and even for a few days before really up your fluids.

This is the prep I did, twice...

7 Days Before Your Test:

 Discontinue any aspirin (ASA) UNLESS you have known cardiac/vascular

disease.

 If you are taking Warfarin, Coumadin or Plavix or have any kidney diseases, you

must contact our office.

 Discontinue iron containing medications or products.

 Do not eat any food containing seeds (kiwi, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries,

poppy seeds, flax, sesame, tomatoes, bran, etc.).

 Diabetic patients must be sure to schedule a morning appointment. Diabetic and

hypoglycemic patients may contact their family physician or our office for further

instructions. Please bring your medication with you, to be taken after the

procedure.

3 Days Before Your test:

 Do not eat foods containing grains, nuts or popcorn (regular cereal & whole wheat

breads are okay.

Preparation:

 Obtain Peglyte, Colyte or Klean Prep laxative plus one box (two packettes in

each box) of Pico Salax from your local pharmacy. You do not need a

prescription—see laxative section.

The Day Before The Examination:

 Drink clear fluids only for breakfast, lunch and dinner (tea, apple juice,

cranapple, jello, gingerale, broth, Gatorade, etc.). Anything you can see through,

you can have, except red or grape in colour! NO DAIRY PRODUCTS OR

SOLIDS. Drink lots of Gatorade, diluted if needed.

THE NIGHT BEFORE THE EXAMINATION:

 5:00 p.m. packette of Pico Salax with ½ cup of water, gingerale or Gatorate and

drink, wait 1 hour then mix one liter of Peglyte, Colyte or Klean Prep, drink a

glass every 10 minutes.

 Drink a minimum of 4 large glasses of Gatorade (first choice),

gingerale or water during the evening after you have taken the

solutions.

 Drink as much as possible after this.

 The preparation usually starts working within 30 minutes, and may

cause abdominal bloating, cramping and occasional vomiting (Gravol

may be taken).

Day of Examination:

 5 hours prior to procedure1 packette of Pico Salax with ½ cup of water,

gingerale or Gatorate and drink, wait 1 hour then mix one liter of Peglyte, Colyte

or Klean Prep, drink a glass every 10 minutes.

 Drink as much clear fluids as you wish until 2 hours before your test.

 Hydration is very important.

Both times you followed the instructions as directed? There have been occasions mentioned on the forum where they weren't cleaned out enough and one common factor was that they didn't drink enough water. Usually though once you're running clear you don't have to continue drinking the prep. Are you on any medications that may constipate you like pain medication or do you normally deal with constipation? If so then you may want to do an all liquid diet one to two days before prep day and have only clear liquids on prep day. Trying a different prep may help as well. The best prep I've used is Suprep but remember to drink A LOT of water no matter which prep you use.
