Hi, I'm new here. I'm currently in hospital and have been pretty ill for a month with pain and bloody diarrhoea.

So they are doing a colonoscopy tomorrow, not sure whether it is am or pm as there is a language barrier as i am in Finland (normally from the UK). But they have brought some lunch just now of pork in a creamy tomato, grated carrots and a creamy dessert and have insisted it is ok to eat today. I didn't think one was allowed many of the above foods 2 days before and certainly not 1.
Am I right not to eat it?

When I done my prep (UK) it was a low redisule diet 2 days before and only clear fluids the day before.

Definatley wasn't allowed anything creamy 2 days before, so I think your right in not eating it.

I thought so, thank you so much for replying.
I just don't want there to be any problems tomorrow so they can finally get a diagnosis and get me on the right treatment. Be nice to feel like a human again.

My daughter had a colonoscopy a few days ago. Day before she was allowed a light breakfast and then clear fluids for the rest of the day. Having anything creamy doesn't sound right. But you are in hospital and they should know what they're doing.

Good luck with your colonoscopy.

Could be there is some kind of mistake. So, good job by not eating it, but definitely mention it to the dr or nurse when they come in to see you.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it was the nurses who were insisting it was ok to eat and I was brought a nice creamy soup at 5 for dinner lol
The language barrier is not helping. To say I want to go home is an understatement!
Hopefully things will improve when I am transferred to the GI ward today.
Thanks again

If you in doubt do not eat it. if you can last without eating do so, you know your own body and it's ability to last.

so how are you today? best of luck, the language difference has to make it much harder...

Hey, I am doing much better thank you. The scope showed severe inflammation in the whole large bowel but the terminal ileum looked clear so they think it is probably UC but the biopsies should be back today. So have started on 40mg Prednisone and 800mg Asacol and there seems to be an improvement already so fingers crossed I can get out and fly home.

The scope was the only time I saw the GI so I wasn't in the best position to ask questions then and they moved me back to a general ward straight after where nobody can answer any of my questions on drug side effects etc. So I'm feeling a bit lost. They also keep giving me what I know is inappropriate food, some of which made my bleeding worse again last night. It very much feels like I am getting different care than someone from here despite the fact that the NHS pays my bill. I had a woman from admin come in while the Dr. Was in the middle of performing my scope (and had just told me it looked like an IBD) to double check my details so they could bill correctly. I could go on. I'm sorry for moaning, it has just been a horrible experience but at least I'm now stable and can hopefully get home soon x

Hoping you make it home before much longer, always comfort in familiar surroundings - and especially with one's own language!

stay strong!!!
