After having a colonoscopy this morning wondering if anyone could help with a few pointers as new to all this

why are photographs taken does it mean inflamation was evident there (terminal ileum and rectum) biopsies taken at the terminal ileum

mucosa ; patchy mild granularity within 4 locations (area extending fromthe caecum to the proximal transverse, an area extending from the splenicflexure to the proximal sigmoid, an area extending from the distal sigmoid to the rectum) what does this mean?

biopsies was taken in the 3 areas what are they expecting to find

is it usual for symtoms to increase on the day after the colonoscopy diarrhea increased with cramps before and blood present?

Hi,

Photos are general taken throughout to compare between inflamed and non inflamed areas. Even when I have had no inflammation in some areas they still take pics for reference. Not sure about the mucosa part. Biopsies can be used to distinguish depth of inflammation and UC vs CD as well as severity. My symptoms tend to be a bit worse afterward, they did just stick a tube through an already irritated area, however if it doesn't return to normal within a couple days I would call your GI.

I had one last week, and three of the photos were of my perfectly normal large bowel.

And yes the first few days my bowels were a bit abnormal, but are back to normal (or at least what's normal for me) now. Biopsies will cause a small bit of bleeding, but what they told me (and what they should have told you) is if you get a lot of blood you should call. They gave me a specific number for colonoscopy help.

Granular means roughened or reddened, which is consistent with inflammation. The mucosa is the mucous membrane layer of your gut. So that bit of the report means you have roughened, red areas of the various parts of your gut that have been named.
