DS has a cold. Sniffles, sneezes, runny nose. What have you used for symptoms? He's on Remicade...

I have Children's Sudafed and Coldcalm here. Any other suggestions? Of course it's the weekend and I don't want to call the on call GI over this, but I'm just leery because he hasn't been sick since starting Remicade.

Thx!

Frustrating how something as simple as a common cold can bring about so many questions and concerns!! :ymad: When Stephen began remicade, the specialty pharmacist advised no ColdFX or ginseng (including teas that have ginseng) or another other immune booster type supplement.

Stephen has taken tylenol with no problem (no ibuprofens though!), I don't recall if he's taken anything like sudafed though. :( Can you call the pharmacy that supplies the remicade? (I was called by the pharmacy when S began remicade and told to call them if I had any questions re conflicts with remicade.)

Sorry I don't have more advice... :ghug:

My daughter has taken NyQuil, Claritin and Mucinex for colds while on Remicade/Humira. I can't remember if she's taken Sudafed but if you're worried, you could always ask the pharmacist.
Hope he feels better soon!

Also, Mehita, you have a beautiful dog, I love that picture!

We never give meds for a cold .
Just plenty of fluids
And occasional Tylenol if the fever gets high.
DS is on many other meds for other stuff when he was on remicade .
We always check with the GI though. .

Thanks, everyone. He's just sooo stuffy. Standing in a hot shower now trying to loosen things up.

It's kind of a bummer because this week is spring break and we had fun things planned :(

Johnny isn't on Remicade but we have given him Tylenol PM when he has a cold. The Benadryl helps him sleep and helps with the stuffy nose. We also use cough patches.

I hope this passes soon and you can enjoy spring break!

I am always nervous giving cold capsules. We stick to paracetamol and decongestant nose spray. Occasionally I give him anti-histamine to dry up his nose, only because I know Cetrizine is fine to take with Mercaptopurine. Not sure about Remicade, best to ask a pharmacist. Hope he feels betteroon

Within 12 hours all four of us are down for the count. Great. Can someone send a lifeboat?

Sudafed works well for nasal congestion in my experience. Mucinex for chest congestion.

I know it's too late to start the Coldcalm but for the future...

I asked a compounding pharmacist if the Boiron line was safe in the event we need to use it and she said yes.

M is on Imuran and I would give it to her if needed.

Oh...is it spring? I hadn't noticed with the 3 foot high snow piles still in front of my house!

Humidifier, Boiron line and oil of wild oregano...two drops under the tongue each day...knocks it right out.

Any time my daughter gets sick in any way her doctor wants to see her right away. He doesn't want us to give her anything and that doesn't matter med.'s she is on. We've been through almost all of them. She was diagnosed 4 years ago and still isn't in remission. :(

I'm sorry to hear your daughter still isn't in remission. Hugs to you both. Please feel free to look around and if comfortable you're welcome to post your story or ask any questions.

Just a quick update... I never gave DS anything for the cold and took MLP's suggestion re: lots of fluids. He seriously drank like two gallons and was peeing every 15 minutes, BUT he was feeling fine two days later. It was pretty amazing.

The rest of us are finally wrapping things up 10 days later. Blech.

Hey since I mentioned Oil of Wild Oregano here I thought I would post our recent experience here again....

O got athletes foot (obviously from pool locker room or deck). We were treating it with over the counter fungal cream. A few weeks later ringworm appears on her face and other areas...then I got it. I took out our trusty ant fungal anti bacterial OOW and BAM next day all the spots were significantly decreased. It was amazing how fast it worked. But O stopped and they came right back so now she is committed to a few weeks to really knock it out. So glad we didn't have to resort to that nasty anti fungal oral med that shouldn't be used with mtx.
