Long story short - I've been blessed that my symptoms are usually not very severe. dx in 2005, took 6 months to get meds adjusted and did fine on Pentasa and MP6 for 3 yrs. Lost job, stopped taking meds and managed until April 2010. During April and May I was admitted to hospital 3 times totalling 24 inpatient days. Final dx was that colon is extremely enflamed in two different places. Put on liquid diet. Have been doing better for the last month other than Prednisone side effects. I'm starting to expand my diet a little. I've been taking it slow with foods like mash potatos, pasta, soft cooked chicken and turkey, tuna, boiled eggs, etc... A few days ago I tried some pasta and chicken from a restaurant. Since then I've been having unusual pains, cramps in my lower abdomen instead of my side, hemoroid type pain and symptoms, and bleeding. It hurts when I pass gas. When I go to the bathroom sometimes I have to strain and it feels like a huge watermelon coming out, but the stool is about as round as a pencil. When I use hemoriod wipes instead of soothing, they burn. And it feels almost lumpy. I spoke with the nurse today and she moved my appointment from next Thursday to Monday. I've read about perianal abcesses and rectal blockages and I'm wondering if these are symptoms or if it's just an unusual hemoroid? I'm trying not to stress myself out, but the pain has been bad enough that I've been taking Darvocets and still hurting, but it's tolerable. And I'm getting afraid to eat again except liquids and yogurt. If anyone has any comforting advice to get me through this weekend, I would greatly appreciate it. :depressed:

before i was diagnosed with crohn's in may, when i would go to the bathroom it would hurt so bad it felt like i was passing glass. it go so bad i went to the hospital and they thought i has an abcess. it wasn't it was an anal fissure and a hemmroid. they tell you to try suppositories and warm sitz baths. i did that an in about a week the pain started to go away.

Hi Beverly,

I hope you are feeling a little better. I havent had any colon issues but I was struck with the feeling of feeling like passing a watermelon. At times, I feel like I am giving birth to a watermelon but cant quite locate the pain - front or back. It does however stop me in my tracks where it is difficult to move and then it goes away after a bit. It has returned over the years but never stays with me and I dont quite know when it will hit. What I am getting at is I can sort of relate and it was quite painful. I cant imagine having that pain 24 hours!! It does sound like there is something in the way when you say pencil thin stool.
I hope you get some answers soon and that the pain subsides.
Take care and hang in !

poor beverly! i posted something on bethy's thread about this. i had excruciating pain in perianal and a bump. doc put me on cipro and flagyl until i could be seen by the surgeon. warm baths, low residue diet helped me a little. hope you are better soon.

Sorry Bev no advice but thinking about you and hope things get better for you soon.

Take care and (((HUGS)))

It's been a couple of days, and the symptoms are changing. No more bleeding, less rectal pain, more D, more abdominal pain, and less gas. I hate to keep taking my pain pills, but sometimes I have to. Sorry if it sounds like I'm complaining, I'm just over it. I'm looking forward to my appt. Monday. I appreciate all of you being here. If it wasn't for my family and the support I get from this forum, I'd probably give up. I know there is nothing ya'll can actually do, but just being there for me helps. Thanks for all the encouragement. You all are the very best.
