Hello everyone!
I have had symptoms of crohns starting when I was 16. When I turned 18 I became deathly ill and had my whole colon removed. The doctors though I had UC, and said the surgery would cure me and I could go back to living a normal with a J-Pouch.

Not so. I never felt good after the surgery and I have had chronic pouchitis for a year and a half now. I have tried remecade, humira, steroids, nothing in western Medicean has ever been the cure. So now my doctor wants me to get a permanent illeostomy bag. I am only nineteen years old!

So I begin trying new alternative remedies. I stopped eating gluten, dairy, caffeiene and most sugary foods, and most raw foods because my body has a hard time digesting them hence the surgery.

I will always have the runs because I have a J-pouch, but what really bothers me is the pain and fatigue. I want my life back! I want a chance at my enjoying my youth without the cost of a bag!

I do a lot of yoga. I began volunteering at a yoga studio, and I find a lot of support from people working there with me.

I have been working with an acupuncturist, and he thinks right now I need to live of a soup with healing powers. It consists of zucchini, green beans, chicken stock, Ginger, and parsley. You just steam all the vegetables, and then blend them in a blender, heat it on a stove and wala! Excellent soup. So I would eat this, and juiced organic veggies, pure aloe Vera juice, and garden of life probiotics. I would also be allowed to eat organic baby food.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?has anyone tried something similar, or have any stories with alternative Medicean? I would love to get your feedback!!

I plan to start September, 13th, the day after my birthday.

Hi Rina,
I'm sorry to hear you're still not feeling well after your surgery. I've had crohn's (or maybe UC, they can't tell) since I've been 13 and have been on numerous medicines through the years (humira, asacol, rowasa, immuran, cortifoam, etc). But I think that diet has made the biggest difference for me, so it can't hurt to try the new diet you posted about. I find that the more natural foods I eat, the less my stomach hurts. Processed foods (deli meats, fast food, candy, etc.) have always given me horrible stomach cramps and my stomach much better since I started eating foods with less preservatives. As for the babyfood, my mom always gave me and my brothers (we all three have crohn's) baby food when we were had diarrhea growing up and it always helped. It's pretty easy to digest and isn't that bad if you add a little salt. If I feel like a flare up is coming on I will eat babyfood for a couple days and it seems to help give my intestines a break and stop the diarrhea. Obviously, everyone has different things that set them off, but couldnt hurt to try! Hope you feel better soon :)

Regarding Aloe Vera for your UC, I have seen some potential negatives and some potential positives and a whole hell of a lot of very shady companies marketing it using predatory tactics. I like scientific studies and came across this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15043514

If you do utilize it, please be careful about the company you purchase it through.

HI Rina, i also want to add to keep your energy levels up if your stomach and handle it is to try some boost, or ensure and any type of nutritional drink. this can help with Crohn's because it keeps your vitamins up and fatigue down. i hope this helps. best wishes.:rosette2:

Hey Rina I agree with Scottmyster. Ensure is a safe best bet. I took it yesterday after having food poisoning. You could have low Iron, b12, best to get your bloods checked. Everyone suffers from fatigue from time to time, keep nutrition in helps. Since I have had crohns over 20 years, you can bet I have done it all, gluten free, dairy free, caffeine free, nightshade veggies free, smoothies, and my opinion is food doesnt always cure everything, so I just eat smaller portions more times thru the day. We are all different and we react to meds, naturals and the disease itself so it is trial and error for all of us, what works for me may not for you...I don't have a problem now with weight loss lol ;). Glad you joined us.

Have you tried the SCD or GAPS diet? It's a lot like what you're doing - broth with cooked vegetables is the basic food for healing. But make it yourself, it's super easy. Just throw a whole chicken in the crockpot with 6 cups of water, salt and a bay leaf and thyme. After a day of simmering, you'll have the greatest broth you ever tasted (adjust the salt to taste). Pull off most of the meat. Mash the chicken with a potato masher or wooden spoon to get all the vitamins, protein, and minerals out of the bones. Strain. Put the meat back in. You can add carrots, zucchini, onions, etc. to it, boil until tender right in the broth, to retain all the vitamins. You'll have enough to feed yourself for a couple of days.
