Hi,

Wonder if anyone, can shed a light please

Obviously i have crohns disease and i have a number of blockages in my small intestine which may have to have surgery down the line, but i make sure i look after myself health wise and eat well to avoid this

My only issue id every day, i am constantly hungry day in day out, which having not eating for days at a time being sick i cant really complain :)

could the constant hunger be attributed to my blockages and absorption?

Many Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike.

Is your weight stable?

It could be an absorption issue but honestly I'm kinda at a loss.

Hopefully someone will be along who can help.

You're not taking prednisone or any other medications that can cause hunger as a side effect are you?

I think some thyroid problems can cause hunger also.

I'm not sure if problems with absorption could cause hunger. I would have thought that if you have malabsorption issues, you might feel too unwell to feel hungry. Do you know for sure you're not absorbing properly, or is it just a suspicion you have? And I would have said the same for blockages - they should cause pain, sickness, fullness and bloating, shouldn't they? But then they can't be complete blockages, or you'd be very ill and needing to be in hospital.

I just discussed this with my doctor the other day and he said it's my body wanting to gain weight and he suggested doing so by building up muscle. Makes sense to me! :)

You could try protein shakes so there is a less chance of it affecting the blockages. Protein helps the body heal, so it wouldn't hurt to try either way
