constipated

Hi, after trying to cope with my pain for too long I phoned my IBD nurse yesterday. I'm taking 200mg Azathioprine, 4g Pentasa, 3mg budesonide daily and Humira every 2 weeks. The pain is in my back as well now and I had had enough :(. She advised me to go to A&E and get myself admitted. I did this expecting to be there for hours to be told to go home and come back tomorrow. Well I was wrong!! I was taken through to the urgent care unit where they took bloods, then I was taken up to a ward and admitted:eek2: I was then examined by 2 docs, one said he thought it could be constipation even though I am going 2 or 3 times a day, so i was whisked off to X-ray. The doc was right, he showed me the X-ray and I am completely full!!! The other doc explained that beacuse I have a narrowing which is scarred my poo isn't getting through properly causing it to back up. It does make sense and I saw the proof on the X-ray, but I really didn't think I wasn't getting rid of enough, especially as I can only manage to eat very little. So anyway the gave me a prescription for fybogel and discharged me. All that in under four and half hours, amazing!! My IBD nurse phoned me this morning and said that it looked like it was the time for surgery, so now I wait :(

I have gone three times in the last two years to ER with severe pain thinking it was an obstruction - only to be told I was just FULL OF ****!! LOL I had to be given colon prep to get things moving. ER docs were just fine with me coming as better be safe than sorry.

I was really surprised at how well and speedy I was treated. I expected to be fobbed off after being there hours:smile:

It's really good to hear a positive NHS experience. Unfortunately the nature of reporting experiences tends to skew towards the negative, as that's what makes people speak out, so it's really encouraging for others when we hear about good care, too. There's an awful lot of great staff and treatment out there.

I hope whatever surgery you need is relatively straightforward.

Best wishes.

That's why I posted, there are a lot of great NHS staff out there. Unfortunately there are too many bad who make you feel like you are wasting their time
