Hello,
I know everyone is different, and the reactions to diet and treatments are different, but I thought I would post up a few things that have been helping me lately which may help others too.
To note, I have had Diarrhea based Crohn's for almost a year and had multiple problems like kidney failure, anemia, and so forth, but I suffer from serious constipation ever since changes of medication and treatments.
My body easily gets used to the foods I eat, so therefore, for me, a lot of things help for a while, but then stop, so I try again with them a later time, hinting why I will be writing quite a few possible foods or supplements that may or may not assist others.
I have noticed several others have trouble with constipation, so this is why I am posting this.
I have been told by doctors and pharmacists to try taking more fiber, which they suggested that either I take Metamucil or Benefiber supplements, or to start with by adding Wheat bran to my diet. I personally have begun with the wheat bran.
I would wake up, and on an empty stomach I would eat my breakfast with a glass of 100% pure fruit juice(not from concentrate because those are not too good for the body), mixed with at least two spoons of wheat bran. While I eat, I usually have coffee brewing.
Aside from the fiber, I have noticed freshly brewed coffee works really well, at least for me, but it has to be fresh, not left sitting for an evening or day, or else it would not work. So about five minutes after eating my breakfast, I would drink a mug four quarters filled with pure black expresso then mix about three spoons of milk (lactose/lactose free), with two small spoons of cane sugar.
After the milk and coffee, I usually rush to the restroom either within half an hour or two hours prior to the meal.
Otherwise, some foods that also helped me go to the bathroom:
Having an orange as a last entry for the day, helped me have stool the next morning. I would usually eat the orange a few hours before my slumber.
Or eating green onions or red onions with my sandwich for breakfast only would help.
One of the most important things my doctor suggested, was drink at least three liters of fluids a day! I do this by drinking two liters of water and one or two of 100% pure fruit juices.
The fruit juices should be natural and not from concentrate as its not the same and will not give you the same effect. Surely the juices may be more expensive, but its worth it for our health.
Anyway, I hope I was able to assist at least someone with this information. Good luck and best of wishes to all of you!
kisses, Aya
