Convatec Ostomy reviews

I recently started a post about Coloplast ostomy supplies and you were all so wonderful and forthcoming with your feelings. I hope you don't mind me asking the same question but for Convatec supplies. I've got it narrowed down between Convatec and Coloplast and was wondering if any of you had any feelings about Convatec supplies? Thank you thank you, you are all so wonderful and have done more than you know!

They didn't work for me at all...but I only tried them when I first got Oscar, and found I was more frustrated than anything. I basically went with the brand that didn't piss me off the most...lol

I had a bit of trouble with the Convatec supplies. But my hernia was probably to blame! Nothing was sticking to me and Stan is a geiser sometimes!

However, I did find the Convatec people very helpful and supportive.

I am going to revisit all the suppliers again at xmas break. Best time to try things....while at home...in sweats...no one to see, no where to go.

I've heard from others the filters are pretty good with convatec, however any samples I have tried haven't stuck well to my skin.

I do use the convatec stomahesive paste and it's really good stuff at helping to get the bag stuck on properly.

I am a very happy Convatec user, 2-piece, convex,, moldable. I am now on a regular changing schedule and (knock on wood) no accidents during day or working hours.
I tried Hollister but liked the Convatec better. I use 1/2 Eakin Seal to push up the slanting side of the stoma and pretty much nothing else with great success.

32 years on from getting my stoma, I still regularly try all the new stuff that comes out from the different manufacturers just in case something better comes along! Convatec 2 piece with GXtra seals underneath though still works best for me. I'm active (and play sport) and I usually get two days between changes and hardly ever any leaks. The only annoying thing is the filter bit, which I have to seal up with duct tape to stop it leaking!!

Why don't you get the filterless bags?

I did not only because they stop working but because of the location and the flapping over the extra material causes.

I always use coloplast products.. they work the best for me. I actually tried them with a free sample. I also found that 3m no sting wipes makes an awesome moisture protector wipe.. helps avoid getting skin ulcers. I also use hollister paste. I prefer to use a variety for my needs. A lot of places give free samples if you email or contact them.. keep trying until you find your needs met.

I tried Convatec once, and it immediately started leaking. I had major issues getting the bag attached to the flange. I have the other sample as a back up but I'm not sure if I will go out of my way to try them again.

I use a Convatec 2 piece without a filter and it's pretty good. The only thing I don't like about it is that the bags are sometimes inconsistent where the plastic at the opening will act odd and won't open properly. It doesn't effect usability but it can be a little annoying when the inevitable stool collects in that side and you can't get it out easily. I'm going to be giving Convatec a call about that though.

Another thing, I'm allergic to all the tapes they use on all wafers but Convatec so far is the only one that will stick decently to me when I cut all the tape off. That's a major plus for me.

When I put it on I use an Eakin seal and by now I've just learned the correct amount to roll the wafer. I hope that helps.

I switched to Convatec after failing with Hollister. I use the moldable flange - and its a pleasure to use - since my stoma is not round, it shapes itself to the stoma. I use Eakin seals (but now trying the Salts seals from the UK - as its much easier to apply and remove).

With the Eakin seal, I can change every 3 days. Without it, after 48 hours barrier breakdown was noticeable.

Jeff, I have not had the trouble you describe. I wonder if you got a faulty batch?

If Jeff did, I got supplies from the same batch. I have had several, surprisingly not all of them, with the same annoying inconsistency. It seems that glue from the white strip is "leaking" in the bag when it gets warm (at least my theory) and you have to rub the white strips at the end apart to open the bag all the way up.

Good for you, Jeff, that you plan on calling .... please let us know what Convatec has to say.

Lostnut, I'm not sure as when I started with them I got one that was weird in that the white part was glued slightly wrong. Now I just get it more often. I don't have to rub it to open it but it's just a bit of a pain. I've also had a slight leak that comes out from the white part.

I'll have to call them next week when I'm home and have time as from now until Tuesday at 10:45 I will be writing papers and studying for tests as well as doing many other commitments...ugh. I just can't wait until I can have five minutes to myself on Wednesday. haha

Jeff, it seems that the sticky problem wanders. I had it on the side of the white strips and just slightly below. Sometimes it is not a big deal and sometimes I really have to put some "work" into it to pry them apart. Sure is weird though because, at least with mine, it is not detectable before actual use, which is why I think that temperature plays a role in it.

Oh wow, that's a strange effect. Mine if I attempt to open you can just tell that it was glued in the wrong spot. This last batch seems much better but you can never tell.

Thank you. I just finished a 10 page paper. I've got two quizzes, one tomorrow and one on Tuesday where the teacher just let us know yesterday about it and for the same class I have a paper due the Monday after Thanksgiving so I pretty much need to do it before I leave or it won't get done.haha

10 pages -- I remember those times!But, overall looks like a pretty stressful mid-term to me.

I just wish I could see the fault before putting the bag on. Then I could set them aside and collect them, send them to Convatec and get them exchanged. From what I hear they are all eager to please and make things right.
Hope you will get around to calling since your batch seems to be more pronounced with the glue fault.

Oh, and despite the studying schedule -- Happy Thanksgiving!

:ywow::dance:hi~I have crohn's and ms. My son and husband have Hirschsprungs(Hirschsprung's is not auto imune) but it is a bowel disease caused in vitro from neves notforming. Long story shory my husband has a Koch pouch(it is an internal pouch that you use a catheter to drain 3x a day. Dr. Zane cohen at mount sini hospital in toronto ontario did this for my husband~personally I think it is awsome`no bag to deal with ~no one even knows~he puts a little bandaid over his little red stoma and honestly no one would ever know! Just sharing because i have crohns they would not do a koch pouch for my son as crohns can always come back(they will do a koch pouch for colitis~anyway son has iliostomy and we tried convetec,coloplast every thing we could as flanges would not stay on! Everyone's skin is different so what works for one may not for the next~he has used hollister for 2.5 years now and gets anywhere from 5-10 days out of flange depending on what physical activity he is doing~but anyone getting an iliostomy remember you can phone hollister,convetec, coloplast and anyother company you want and ask for a free trial sample before you put out money.thanks (son doesn't have crohn's he has hirschsprungs~but doc at sick kids in toronto say to risky as he could get crohns as i have it )

That is sure true, and when you are short they don't mind sending it overnight .. saved my ass, ahem, stoma a few times
