cooking/herbs etc

hey guys,

I am just starting out currently flaring after a recent diagnosis and was just wondering about what people are able to tolerate when making food from scratch.

i used to enjoy making all my meals with fresh herbs such as basil oregano etc and wondered if anyone else does the same and are able to tolerate these (esp. during a flare) or if they are like salad/veggies and best left alone?

Typical herbs i liked to use were fresh basil, parsely etc in pasta sauces or dried versions

spices seem a no go for many obviously but i wondered with herbs if they seem milder

thanks

I seem to be fine with all spices and herbs. I guess you could eat some safe foods that day and also some fresh herbs on their own and if you seem to react you can guess it was caused by them.

I use quite a lot of herbs as well. Peppermint makes a great tea btw and also helps with bloating and stomach pain

You can use most spices except the really spicy ones. i would stay away from them but the spices you've mention are not spicy and some other, Well there is a lot of spices to use and there is too many to list them off. but, if you find them easy on your system it will be fine to use them. That is my suggestion. best wishes:thumright:

Spices and herbs seem to help rather than harm, especially ginger, allspice, nutmeg and cumin. Those are all said traditionally to help with diarrhea and/or nausea. Thyme and oregano too. If you use whole seeds, strain them out if having a flare.

Herbs and spices have been my friends through my worst flare, particularly when I'm 'stuck' with a low residue diet and need to make food as interesting and appetizing as possible. Along with the helpful spices and herbs mentioned above, cinnamon, mint, sage, parsley, turmeric, fennel seeds have really helped me. And I don't know the helpfulness or value of cilantro, but I use it anyway because I love cilantro!
