Does anyone notice that their Crohn's seems to "flare" during PMS?

I usually have typical PMS symptoms (swollen breasts, diarrhea, food cravings, etc.) but I feel like since diagnosis with Crohn's, the week before my period my gut has periodic painful, burning sensations that I have only before associated with the symptoms I typically get when I am mid-flare. I never used to have these discomforts before I developed Crohn's. And they seem to calm down mid-period.

Is it common for Crohn's to be aggrivated by PMS/your period?

I've seen it mentioned many times on the forum and even women without IBD tend to have diarrhea during their period as well. Dunno if its really a "flare" but I'm not sure of the exact cause either other than hormones somehow.

I've started to get really intense lower back pain around my period, which never happened before being diagnosed. My period definitely makes the Crohn's worse, and I feel like the Crohn's makes my period worse. Hate it.

yes, I know all about the dreaded crohn's lower back pain....

I think its interesting to hear how differently IBD can affect people. There really is no rhyme or reason. Sucks...but we get through somehow...

Crohns does most def can ( although not for everyone) affect your period>

Ok, my family Dr told me to cut down on the stress- a husband, 3 kids, and 4 dogs!

So Lauren, which stress did you cut down on or get rid of? The husband, kids or dogs? LOL!

My gynegologist has said I can move my period with use of birth controll pills (or I use the ring) and I have my period maybe once every 3-4 months. At one part it was effecting my crohns and healt so badly I hardly was able to recover from one period when the next one would allready be around the corner. This what I do now makes my life so much easier.

Ummmmm for rid of one of the dogs! Anyone of them could go
next! Maybe the husband? He seems to think his behavior
dosent affect me. So he's the likely choice.

since i have had crohns and taken the pill i have not had a period but before i was on the pill it made it worse, was hossible, was like having a mini flare everytime.

Doctor gave me some strong pain killers to deal with it so i could carry on x

Hope it gets better in time x
