Hi All

I would really really appreciate any guidance;

Had Crohns for a few years and recent mri showed narrowing at terminal ileum.
Consultant has recomended a resection.

Can a narrowing cause pretty much non stop stomach rumbling / gurgling, I put my hand over the upper abdomen and 90 % of the noise / vibration is coming from the stomach, yet the narrowing is at the terminal ileum.
Can this 'narrowing' cause fatigue , feelings of being generally unwell even if I have no active desease at present?

If things are having a hard time passing through then I'm sure it may add some extra noise. As far as feeling tired and general unwell feelings of course it can make you feel that way. A narrowing/stricture is made by either chronic inflammation or scar tissue from past inflammation. In your case it may be scar tissue since you said your disease isn't currently active. Scar tissue doesn't absorb anything so you're more than likely lacking in nutrients (being low on certain nutrients like B12 and Iron can make you feel awful). Scar tissue can cause a blockage. There are full blockages and partial blockages. I imagine that a partial blockage will give you a general unwell feeling since a full blockage would send you to the hospital for emergency surgery due to intense pain and vomiting. Knowing this, removing the stricture is in a sense preventative medicine because you do not want a blockage.

Welcome to the forum! :D

Thanks a lot for the swift reply - much appreciated

Yes - the surgeon has said it is 'scar' tissue as I've had biposy and faecal calprotectin which showed no active crohns.

It's just I feel worse than I ever did when I had a flare up so I was thinking it may be something else. (never really noticed the stomach grumbling before) I have had blood tests every 2 weeks which come back normal which is also confusing me as I understand any iron / vitiamin deficiencies would be picked up by those.

General blood tests will not specifically look for vitamin deficiencies. They are probably only looking for inflamation, etc.

You will have to be specificially tested for vitamin b12 deficiency.

Big Vern, My Gi refused to put me on B12 shots said they wouldnt help and my levels where fine. So I went to family doc who siad he would like to see my levels higher and I have had over 6 b12 shots and I am finally feeling a bit more energy. ( When I am low on b12 my lips get dry so watch for that.) Also I am know starting iron infusions because iron pills are not helping, so I have heard that helps greatly with energy. I have also started taking a liquid super vitamin that also has aloe vera juice in it which I have read is good for Crohns patients, I think all of that has helped with energy and feeling more alert. I hope this helps I know it can be so overwhelming at times but stay strong, you are the only one running the race, but we are all here cheering you on!!! :wink:
