What do you mean your "signed off" because of a flair?

Welcome!

signed offf in the uk means being signed off sick. the doctor signs a form to state you are too sick to work.

Yes I have :(

I work as a PA in the financial sector.

In the first instance I was approached by occupational health asking questions about how they could make my working day "easier". A genuine concern and offer to help was received to begin with. I think they thought it was curable and I would get 100% better, I just don't know... Anyway, after a time there were more meetings to discuss workloads and if i was unable to deal with it, if i needed any help etc and I was absolutely fine. Then the workload began to creep up with no extra work being received by other PA's. Eventually I was asked into a meeting to discuss my being unable to handle the work and was given a months notice.

I did have a few weeks off with problems but luckily this did not affect the work I was doing as I was able to work at home with a laptop, mobile phone and network connection etc

I felt like the increase in workload was fabricated to make it just impossible for one person to do, although I know that is me being paranoid. I now know that there are TWO people doing the role I was doing... goes to show how well I was doing, doing the work of two people AND dealing with very bad flare-ups!!

I just wish they had given me a chance and kept me on and recruited another assistant for the department to deal with the increase in work.

Sorry I have no real advice for you, just another story about a similar situation...:ybatty:

I just hope they can find some way around this for you. Good luck with the meeting and welcome to the forum :)

hi Kelly & welcome. so sorry to hear your job may be in jeopardy because of ill health :( it's not fair.. i also lost my job for the same reasons a couple of years ago - there's not much you can do about it, but i guess really, when we are too poorly to go into work regularly we really need the pressure of the job taking off us, so maybe it's not such a bad thing.

you can always get your career back on track when you feel better and have things more under control. & don't forget you can claim benefits if you can't work because of poor health.

thanks all for yoir replies im just so sad i love my job wen im welli work realy hard but when im ill im realy ill:( i no im goin to end up getting dismissed as anyone eva been unfairly dismissed then taken it to a tribuneral and won would love to hear your storys:) :depressed:

Kelly, I've written about this in other threads... don't know if you can do a search or anything. But, to be brief, check out the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) in the UK. Try googling it and see if your employers have any policies on it or anything. If you're working in a special needs school then I assume you work in the public sector, which is even hotter on the DDA than private firms... are you employed by the local council? You should maybe get referred to Occy Health, this is more likely to work in your favour than against you. However, if you've only worked there a short time it will be easier for them to get rid of you.
Good luck.

I lost my job because of poor health. I was told that I needed to resign or come back because all of my time was up.
There was no way I could work at the time because I had an open wound in my stomach and had to lay in bed and take pain killers all day.
It gets pretty ridiculous having to deal with workplaces for stuff like that. :(

I'm really sorry that you have to go through this.

thanks steve ive been there nearly 5 years yes do work for county council and i av Got to see occy health for 2nd time in feb

You probably don't need advice on this, but I've always found it best to be as pleasant and helpful as possible with occy health... worked for me, anyway. 5 year's service... you should be established and covered by the DDA, I'd say. Good luck.
