crohn's flair ups

I am just wondering how long a flair up usually lasts?
for each of us I know they will differ I am just trying to figure out an average to see if there is a basic time frame.

Do you all work while having these flair up's?

My flares start in October, gradually building up until it peaks hard core in May. About 7 months. This year, so far so good. Fingers crossed.

I've been flaring since October 2010, with some short periods of better health. I started Humira then, but since that time, my scans are showing more inflammation. In the past, my "big" flares have lasted about a year or more. When I was first diagnosed it took until I agreed to have surgery (about 7 years) to truly get my crohn's under control, but back then (1987) they didn't have the biologics they have now.

I find that once my Crohn's starts to flare, it is difficult to get into remission.

The question has been raised several times if some people have seasonal IBD. I have heard of a ton of cases starting in October. Weird.... How long it lasts is another story.

Jessi, I never thought of that! When I had my second surgery, that flare started in late October and ended only with the surgery the following April.

Flares - my first one april 1987 ended 2004, they could never get it under control, they told me that you should never get more than 3 separate courses of pred in one year I had seven. it would improve while on pred then back to a continuos bathroom visit after, I lived around my crohns for years and not knowing anyone else of my age I just thought it was normal and that I had to deal with it, then REMISSION 2004 till I agreed to scope nov 2005 and bad flare after and miscarriage in the middle till 2 week hospital stay and pred June 2006, REMISSION whoooooppppy had child, then miscarriage, then another child and all good till the dreaded OCT 2010 flare Jessi referred to and I too had it for 7 months till hospital stay and pred. now I'm half way there not flaring but not back to full remission and I'm kind of paranoid about OCT and NOV now since two flares happened then.

I have had short term flares lasting a week or less and long term flares lasting a few months.... Your diet and medication will play a big factor. If it's very bad I suggest going to your doctor and maybe getting prednisone.

I'm a newb...hasn't been 2 months since my diagnosis. Wish I had more specific info for you. I was sick with a number of symptoms from October 2010-current. I can't tell you how long my flares last since I haven't reached remission yet.

I work as much as I can. The worst part of my working situation during the more active flare days is my communte (~1 hour each way). The past month or so, I've worked in the office about 3 out of 5 days.

my last flare was in 2010 oct and lasted until july 2011 so about 9 months and it really bothers me cause all I want to do is be able to work cause my brain says lets go but body says NOOOO.If I am not mistaken that is how we all feel.

Hi, I have a flare about once a year either in Fall or Spring and each one has lasted around 3 months and yes I work while I am flaring. I have an office job and am the only female so I get the bathroom to myself (definately helps). I have asked my gastro if there is a connection to the seasons and he says no. Not sure they know enough about Crohns to rule that out.

Hi there, :bigwave: welcome...perhaps you could share your story on our forum and let us know your IBD details, we would love to meet you!

This is an eye opener for me..
I started my first flare in February and was diagnosed in late July.
The meds worked immediately. I cant imagine having to live with a flare up with no remission in sight for months.:eek2:

I've only had 2 flares. First one lasted a year, then remission for 6 years. This one started last November. I'm doing much better than I was earlier in the year, so I'm hoping for remission in the next month. I've had 2-3 day spells of bad gut, but I don't really consider those flares.

this yeah my flares started in jaurary and is off and on this year.. i ended up in the hospital 5 times this year but working on the remission thing hopefully

I have been flaring since May 2011, struggling to knock this one on the head - it just doesn't want to bugger off this time around :)
