Hi, I have Crohns disease and its 12:00pm here and I have classes all day today at my university. My stomach is really upset, mixed with a little nausea.. What are some good tips for dealing with flareups? I usually try to drink lots of water and obviously I take my meds everyday. What works for you?

Hi there, I avoid dairy, take Ensure, my fave is strawberry, and eat smaller meals more throughout the day, I also avoid chewy foods or meat. That is just me ... pain meds do help too, but I try to avoid it. You are in a stressful mode in University, all new things going on so make sure you get a good nigh sleep oh and btw alcohol, will make your crohns flare too so try and avoid it. Just pretend lol. Hope you feel better soon. Are you on any meds? Drink ginger tea too helps to settle the gut.

Stay away from coffee or acidic foods. Empty your bowels every time you need to because leaving it only makes it worse.
For me, water always makes my tummy worse. It makes me feel bloated and uncomfortable. Milk is also bad for the stomach.
Good solid foods are best, without too much flavour.
And obviously stay away from cigarettes and alcohol.

That's kinda weird that both of you say that...like milk might not help your bowel movements much, but I know for a fact that it coats your stomach and could relieve an upset stomach. And i say water because people with Crohns tend to get dehydrated easily..

Maybe medically they help, but from my experience they just made my stomach feel bubbly, bloated and uncomfortable.

The levsin(hyoscamine) and phenegran(promethazine) work the best for me! They aren't really pain meds so might be more what you are looking for? The levsin is an anti-spasmodic and it definitely helps me. Also lots of toast and I actually drink a lot of water too. Have you tried the BRATY diet? Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast & Yogurt? It's not fantastic but it's low residue/low fiber.

When my stomach would hurt at night I'd use a heating pad and that helped a lot.

PS GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CLASSES!!!
