crohns or fybromyalgia?

Hi All,

iv had crohns for the majority of my life, but since my flare up in november (when i spent the entire month, plus a little more in hospital) i have had such bad muscle/joint pain, trouble remembering things and concentrating etc. I did a test online and it says i have fybromyalgia, however i dont know how many of these symptoms are crohns aswell. my mum has fybromyalgia and it can be genetic, it can also be caused by extreme trauma, and my hospital addimision was very traumatic for me.

My skin feels as though it is bruised, even if someone brushes past me it is incredibly painful. i just wonder if anyone else has this or whether i have another condition aswell as crohns...i hope not!!!
xx

Most of those symptoms are not 'official' Crohn's symptoms, but are often experienced by Crohn's patients. I have not heard of the 'bruised skin' problem before, but dry skin, rashes etc are often experienced by Crohnies. Because the immune system often goes into overdrive, it diverts resources away from other areas, leading to symptoms like tiredness, trouble concentrating etc. Hopefully once you are out of the flare your other symptoms will settle down. If not, go and see your doctor.

I know that when I used to take pred (20 years ago) It gave me the symptoms that you mentioned. I don't know how long you have been on it, but maybe it has to do w/ that, also it could be the Mercaptopurine. I agree with Rebecca go see the doctor or at least call the doctor. I hope you feel better soon.

I have both - Crohns and Fibro. I suffer from joint issues from Crohns but also muscle pain and other symptoms from fibro. I can usually tell the difference between the two. If your mom has fibro it is definitely a possibility that you do to. It is a condition of exclusion, so they will need to rule everything else first. You should see a rhumatologist. Good luck!
