crp norm??

I *know* it was explained in a thread but can't find it...what are the ways it is expressed and the normal/worry/panic ranges?

I remember reading that it depends on the units...Izz's last result was 4.8mg/dl and the nurse told me it is now 93.7 (no units)...would this equate to 9.37mg/dl???

TIA!!

If it is measured in mg/dl then 0 - 1 is the normal reference range.

If it is measured in mg/l then <10 is normal.

Labs can vary slightly with these numbers.

Angie,
Call her back for clarification. It sounds like you are write but i have heard of very high numbers as well so check with her just to be sure. I am sorry that her numbers are still going up! I guess the humira is not working yet? What are they saying? How many doses haas she had?

I seem to have lost some of my post!

Your conversion between the differing units of measurement seem accurate to me and looking at the numbers I would say they have used two different units of measurement.

Matt at his highest was 670 mg/l and I wasn't left guessing that he had problems.

EDIT: That should be 370!

I really can't see Izzi having a CRP of 93.7 if it is a mg/dl unit of measurement Ang.

Just talked to the doc...and he said 93.7 mg/dl is correct...we just won a fast pass to a colonoscopy. :) He isn't fully convinced her numbers aren't skewed by something else, though.

I'm sure it's worth a look but your doc is right, the crp can be elevated for other illness, not just her IBD. Thinking of you......

Ang, when Stephens CRP and SED rate were elevated in December and then lower in January, his GI thought it might partly have been caused by a cold he was fighting and his knee and shoulder injuries ('partly' because they were both still a bit elevated in January...). :ghug:
