Hello to everyone!
I’m new to this forum.
I’m from Russia. I’m 25 years old. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2006 when I was 20 years old. So I lived with my disease for 5.5 years. First 3-4 years of my illness were not very heavy for me.. I was at the hospital only 2 or 3 times, constantly received medicines (sulfasalazine, and then salofalk since 2008) and was very happy. I graduated from university in 2009, then I became a Phd-student, and the teacher in my university, so I had a great amount of work and studying, so at the end of 2010 I had a exacerbation… I spent 2 months in the hospital in Moscow… No medication didn't help me, even prednizolon intravenous.
My weight was 36 kg, I couldn't climb up to the stairs, I had a diarrhea with blood for 15-20 times per day and couldn't sleep because of the pain in my abdomen. Doctors thought about a surgery, but then they decided to use Remicade.
To this date I had already 8 infusions of it. Also I receive azathioprine (100 milligram per day), granular form of salofalk (1.5 g per day), decoctions of curative herbs (such as camomile, tutsan). Periodically I receive calcium, vitamins, and probiotics. Periodically I use suppositories of salofalk.
Also I eat diet products.
My life was very hard at the last year, I was very weak after the hospital, I had all side effects of prednizolon, because I receive it for 4 months, I had to lose my job and can't work on my PhD thesis, I had many problems with our bureaucratic medical system, but I try don't give up and think only about positive moments. I'm happy that I alive=) Despite of my disease I try to travel, to learn new languages, to meet new people, to learn something new, to study at the university.
Sorry, if my English was hard to understand.

Sorry to hear you have been so sick...:( and you are entitled to the times when you feel down, and the "why me", we all go thru that. But it made me smile to read you try to focus on the positive, that's important! Hugs and prayers!

Thank you for sharing your story. Your English is fine and easy to understand. I would suggest you try taking Probiotics on a daily basis to balance your stomach and build your immune system. I take one daily and have noticed a difference. I tried a few and finally found one I love. Good luck!

Yes, I use probiotics, I tried different. I think they are very helpfull.

Also for these years I had various problems, I have now rheumatoid arthritis on my left knee, so unfortunatelly I couldn't play sports and wear shoes with heels.. Heels are not a very big deal of course=)
Last summer doctor remove a liquid from my knee.
I had problems with my face skin, so used a great amount of cosmetics to look better=)

Thank you very much for your posts, guys! I really appreciate it!

Hello and welcome to the forum :bigwave: Sorry to see that you have had a tough time recently, have you noticed any improvement on the Remicade?

I am glad you have decided to join us, there is a lot of info and advice available here that I hope will be of a benifit to you so do have a good nosy round :)

Angrybird, good evening! Nice to meet you.
Yes, I have noticed positive effects on the Remicade. It totally makes me very active person.
But, to be honest, I'm afraid of it... Sometimes I think, may be it would be better to have surgery instead of it. Doctors could remove my colon and made a ostomy..
Shoulda Woulda Coulda...
Now I'm looking forward for my future without fear about possible surgery.

Hiya, one thing to bear in mind is that surgery to remove the problem part of the bowel or even having an ostomy does not guarantee a med free life. I had my first op last year and within 3 months I was having a major flare and was on the steroids (yet again) and am now trying a med I have previously had issues with in order to avoid another biologic (Humira). Also once you start creating scar tissue from ops you are increasing the risk of needing more surgery down the line. I know it comes with a potential set of issues of it's own but try to stick it out with the Remi, especially if it is getting you better. Have you perhaps looked at the Remi sub forum yet? You may find this helpful xxx
