Looking for opinions... I've been dx'd with Crohn's for 8 years (several resections, currently on Remicade). I had a colonoscopy a few months ago secondary to increase in abdominal pain, but it was normal. For past 6ish day, I've had abdominal pain that has continued to worsen a little each day. Today, I had darker red blood in stool during PM. The blood was even a little clotty/thick. It didn't change the water color, rather was mostly mixed in stool. When I've had bleeding in the past, its been bright red and made the toilet water and toilet tissues both very red (and that's always been attributed to internal hemorrhoids). This was very different. Given its sudden presence accompanied with increased pain, any thoughts? Waiting for GI office to return my call...

Speaking for myself, when I get those symptoms, darker blood, often clots, it's because my colon is inflamed, especially if you're experiencing more pain. Are your stools formed?

I am always nervous when I get this kind of blood, but my GI told me to keep calm, darker doesn't always mean worse for us Crohnies, actually, I know that for some people a higher colon inflamation (dark blood) is easier to control than rectal inflamation, when you get bright blood.

I hope your GI will return your call soon!!

Thanks for checking back in. Apparently there's a national IBD conference right now so my GI and his colleagues are all there. In the mean time, I got admitted and receiving IV prednisone for large intestine flare. The bleeding has worsened as has the pain. Crohn's flares suck!

Sorry to hear about the flare but glad that you are getting treatment. I hope the pred gets the inflammation under control quickly and you are home and feeling better soon! Please keep posting and let us know how you are doing! :ghug:
