Can I have dental work (cavity) fixed while on Cimzia? I know bacteria releases and you bleed during a drilling.

"Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Cimzia before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery." http://www.drugs.com/cdi/cimzia.html

Doesn't sound like its impossible to have dental work done but mainly sounds like dental work needs to be timed properly.

Thanks that's what I thought. It's unfortunate that a little task like fixing a cavity requires timing and thinking to avoid problems.

I had 2 cavities filled while on Remicade. I let the dentist know in advance and also checked with my GI to make sure it was okay before I had the work done. Everything went fine without any infections anywhere. Good luck!

Did they tell you to be on the lookout for symptoms of developing an infection? Is there anything that can be done as a preventive?

I always give my dentist a computer printout of all of my medications, medication allergies, side effects of meds, a list of all of my doctors including their address, phone/fax, the name of my pharmacy including the address, phone/fax.

This way if any kind of dental work has to be done, he knows EVERYTHING and if he has questions, he can ask me or call my GI.
