depression

Does anyone get really emotional when they are having a flare? I'm still awaiting my colonoscopy and I just feel like I'm in limbo and the cramps and nauseau are getting worse everyday and today I'm just feeling so emotional, like pms x 100. I asked my dad a simple question about our printer and his response seemed really rude and unneccessary and I burst into tears and I'm still crying right now, for no apparent reason. I used to suffer from depression when I was in highschool but that was years ago and I had been fine until now.

Overall I'm just sad and frustrated that no one seems to understand the pain I am feeling except my wonderful fiance. And now, on top of the pain, I'm depressed. So, this is just great. :(

It's very common and even certain medications can cause depression as well (dunno if you're taking anything). Seeing a therapist might help you a great deal. I recommend it to anyone who feels that they're battling depression or anxiety (and if you have a chronic illness, the chances of that are high). You're not alone for sure but I hope that you're able to seek help because even having someone to talk to about it helps a great deal and if you think you might need medication then they can get you a referral to a psychiatrist.

Yep, it's totally normal! When I have a good day, I am really up! If I have a bad day - it's like a black cloud immediately settles over me.

Better living thru chemicals - Celexa helps a lot!

Hi Lauren and welcome. Depression can be caused over a number of things. You should talk with your family Dr. and see what they suggest. If you have suffered in the past I would imagine you could suffer again. I hope you don't continue to struggle with the depression. There are so many things that can help with that now. If you can deal better and be happier with medication I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try or at lest talk with the doc. Hope you days get better and better.

Yes I absolutely get depressed. Very depressed. It comes and goes which is the strangest thing. It could be being deficient in our vitamins, medications we take, not to mention having crohn's sucks really bad. I, like you, should probably take everyone's advice and at least get some help with it. No point in feeling down when we already have enough to deal with!

I agree with Lucy, talk to your doctor. I am always emotional, this disease does take a toll on you and everyone around you. We understand. Take care of your self ok hun!

Hi Lauren,

It's very normal and now I'm on Prednisone and it's even worse!! I never know when I'll cry or just feeling like I'll never know what it's like to be "normal" again. I have found that Ativan is a god sent.....

:hang: :rosette2:

P.S. I see you're from Michigan, so I'm I welcome Michigander! I live north of Detroit.....:D

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling better today, I must have just been in a funk yesterday. I hope it's something that will pass because I'd really rather not be on any medications. I went through every anti-depressant on the market in high school and I got better and I decided to go off my medications. The withdrawl was the most horrible part and since then i've been good. I think it's just the stress of being constantly sick and exhausted taking its toll on me. Thanks again everyone for all the advice.

Hi Lauren. Nice to see another person from Michigan here. makes about 5 or 6 of us.

Depression. Yes most of us do suffer from it during flares. Just the thoughts of going thru another flare is depressing, then you start adding in all the meds we take which in certain combinations or by themselves will cause it to worsen. I spent many years depressed because I could quite come to grips with having CD. Always screaming in my head "Why me?". Finally I came to realize "Why not me?" Who said I was protected from any disease and that I would be healthy all my life.
My support group is the greatest. I have been blessed with a wife that has been by my side the whole journey and has put up with my moods and never once condemned me for them.
I have learned that to help others has been a great way to keep my own depression under control and by accepting the fact that I will have this the rest of my life and I'm still the person I was before CD.

Good luck

I am having one of those depressed days today. I have been crying all day and I don't want to get out of bed. I don't know if it is the new medications, the fact I have CD or if it is because I am in pain.

Yep...When I'm in a flare...I am VERY weepy. It is so hard to deal with & overwhelming when your flaring....I think its completely normal....But, what is normal! :) Sue

Lauren,
Please talk to you Primary Care Physician or a Psychiatrist about your depression symptoms. I doubt your Gastroenterologist will prescribe anything for you. I regularly get down and take 20mg of Lexapro everyday. You are not alone with these feelings. Please take care. - Kevin

Hi Lauren,

I like the others do suffer from depression when I'm flaring. I wouldn't say I'm clinicly depressed or anything, but I'm bluesy a lot. My parents have offered several times to get me to see a therapist I just refuse because I'm stubborn and I guess part of me is still in denial about things and how bad they really are. As of late though my family is really starting to come around me and support me so that helps a lot since before I felt like I wasn't being supported.
