are the above symptons of ibd or flare up of Crohn's? i was told i had ibs by the doctor about three years ago but he never referred me to a specialist for proper tests. Symptons of mild joint pain and stomach issues not to bad when not smoking or taking nicotine, however one cigarette and i get diarrhea/need to empty bowels fully (means i find it hard to put on weight) and can feel joint pain in arms, toes, and knees and hips get worse. Symptons like the above ongoing for c, 4 years.

Are the above a sign of crohns or something else. saw some links between smoking causing crohns or causing flare or crohns.

Thanks

These could be symptoms of crohn's and smoking could aggravate your condition. Smoking is a big no no for crohn's but coincidentally those who already smoke with colitis who are doing well are not advised to stop. The same doesn't apply to crohn's. I would suggest investigating further with a specialist.

I know people who smoke in order to have a BM

But the way you describe things, I would lean towards that you are having a flare and you must see a GI asap.

Have you been diagnosed with IBD? Has it been suggested you have IBD, IBS, or both?

NGNG is correct - smoking can cause an increase in symptoms in those with Crohn's (while those with ulcerative colitis often find relief from their symptoms from smoking). Do you smoke regularly? Do you have any symptoms when you don't smoke?

I would request a referral to a specialist in your situation. Is giving up smoking an option for you?

When not smoking I would some stomach bloating, itchy skin, some joint pain and tiredness. I haven't been off the cigarettes or nicorette(nicotine causes same symtoms) for over a week to know if the above symptoms would dissapear if I gave up smoking. However after 1 cigarette or taking one nicorette symtoms are 10 times worse and causes skin flushes and stomach cramps and diarhea if I have eaten a meal.

I was diagnosed with ibs based on some stool tests. However the smoking just seems to make things worse and was wondering if this is sign of ibd and not ibs. I am Trying to give up smoking, I'm down to about three cigs a day. About two hours after a cig the stomach feels much better , just a little bloating and the skin flushing clears after about half an hour,i have rosacea. Cig and nicotine make me flush more than alchool.

It could be very simply like was mentioned before, you are allergic or something. Is this to one brand in particular, or in general, and if you have ever smoked anything else, does it also happen? I have heard that UC patients actually are helped by the CO2 in whatever is burning, that it isn't actually cigarettes, or marijuana, that is helping, but the monoxide which seems to give them some relief and comfort? In any case, it does seem like the easy fix is just to quit?
