Hi, I am begining to note food that I know affect my crohns. I have found that fatty foods, Cheese (which I really love and will find hard to go without), wine (again which I love) all cause issues. Hoping that I do not have to add chocolate to this list!!!

Is there any other things that people think I should be avoiding.

regards

Joanne

heres what others find http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=17707

I find that i cant drink red wine at all but white is fine with me, it does seem that all the best tasting foods/drinks are out for me though :(

Normally I find that foods difficult to digest are bad. So that includes sweetcorn, nuts and seeds, wholemeal etc

I did get a list of resistant starches from a dietrician from the hospital who said these may effect my IBD http://www.crohnsforum.com/wiki/Resistant-Starches#vw-comments

Ive cut out a few foods (mainly the ones which are supposed to be good for you lol), but everyso often I come across something which sets me off (found cumberland sausage to be one of them stangely enough)

Remembre everyone is different, it may be worth keeping a diary of what you eat and how you feel (drinks normally react quickly whereas foods can take a few hours). At the start I ate what I knew was ok for me and slowly introduced different foods, if i felt bad the next day i'd have a go eating one item what could have caused it to see if it gave the same reaction. Long process but I found quite a few this way

I'm the same with fatty foods...apparently it gives the small bowel a lot of work to do which can cause irritation and pain. This was why I was initially thought to have gallbladder issues as this causes pain with fatty foods. I love cheese but just can't have it at the moment.
How are you Joanne, you were put on pred by your GI recently I think, is it working well for you..hope so!

Joanne,
Fatty and greasy foods should be avoided. No no no nuts, seeds, or corn. Also, raw foods (veggies and fruits) and red meat (beef and pork) are extremely hard to digest. Everyone's case is different though, so you need to really pay attention to what you eat in order to figure out what causes your flare-ups. Good luck!

Greasy foods for me not always fatty but if it turns greasy then it turns real bad. I too am in the no nuts or seeds club although I still do now and then. My big, big issue is with anything deep fried. I am more or less in remission right now but still anything deep fried can send me running. Suprisingly ceasar salad isn't always my best friend but I have no problems with regular salads, must be the dressing.

Anyway best of luck figuring it out, it can be a handful. I am a big advocate of food diaries, especially in the begining. I put off doing this despite being advised to do so and well it took a long long time to figure out what wasn't working for me (the list is a lot bigger when I wasn't on Remicade). It gets hard when you start having complex meals like say a stir fry and then you get sick. Well in the stir fry it could be the rice, the meat, or anyone of the vegetables.

Best of luck with everything and hope you figure it all out soon.
