I have a comment on this thread;I recently have been diagosed with both Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, and now have this disability,I was treated with surgery:total colectomy with ileostomy,I am still under a doctors' supervision. My condition due to other illnesses within my family has now left me in a shelter, a shelter where I recieved a letter today declaring my illnesses are not considered a disability.I am aware of the laws on this but, clearly they are stilll are not being recognized or enforced, not yet.

It def. is a disability!!! I applied for disability the first time and was denied.. So I applied again and will keep on until something works out. My main reason is for the MEDICAID I need something it's hard to survive with this disease and have no medical coverage! You could always look in to getting a lawyer, I know its easier said then done because that takes $$$. I will probley have to go that route eventually...

If you are talking about social security disability, then they routinely deny qualified applicants, hoping they go away. You have to appeal sometimes multiple times to get covered. If on appeal, you are granted disability status, you get paid back benefits from the onset date. It is helpful to have an attorney for this. They are limited what they can make, and their salary only can come out of back benefits.
