Distinguishable food in diarrhea

I've noticed that most of my D is comprised of food. Actual, distinguishable pieces of food. I made a pot of soup last night, and today it was all there: broccoli rabe, white beans, carrots, and sausage. Oh, and popcorn from the night before.

I'm overweight, and yet it doesn't seem like anything is staying in me?!

Hi :bigwave: I haven't welcomed you to forum yet so :welcome:. If you have D, one thing you should eat is anything but sausage, and popcorn. They are both risky, at least for me anyways. I am overweight too but having D isnt going to make you lose the weight exercise will. When you have D you lose alot of nutrition and to slow it down eat a cup or two of unsweetened applesauce, it does help... Popcorn can get stuck so most of us put that in the no no category. Steaming your veggies is good and so is soup but when you add fat or oil to it, it will fly through your intestines faster than a speeding bullet and doesnt digest. IF you must eat that type of food try digestive enzymes and the applesauce before you eat it, if that dont work, well...best to try another route! Not fun, I know all about it

Popcorn! Sausage! I'm in pain just thinking about it! I agree with Pen, those are things that most of us avoid. If I tried to eat either, I'd end up paying for it for days.

Horizonchild, what's your diagnosis? There was another thread similar to this recently, and someone in that thead said that if your disease is just in your colon, then you tend not to lose weight. Personally I can't stop losing weight, every time I flare I lose another few pounds and I can't seem to put them back on. I'm undiagnosed so I don't know exactly why that's happening.

Well, I'm new to these gross symptoms and I was craving the soup I love to make, lol. This is the first time popcorn has ever made me so sick. And I absolutely love it :-( I am not trying to lose weight by means of D, I am just very surprised that my weight has not fluctuated with food going straight through me.

Cat, I just went to a GI today and met for a few minutes. She said right now it sounds like IBS w/diarrhea. I have a lactose breath test and another test scheduled for the end of the month. Since it doesn't run in my family, isn't keeping me up at night, and I haven't lost weight, she does not think it's Crohn's. All I know is that I'm in pain and I wish it would end. Now that I know sausage and popcorn don't mix well with me, I won't be eating it for a while. And veggies are giving me SO much trouble! I love salads!

I love salads too, we just had our best summer this year in our garden...my husband makes an amazing salad but I had the odd bite of a cucumber... oh well, better than suffering later?

I think that's my issue. I'm definitely a food addict so avoiding certain foods is proving to be incredibly difficult. *sigh*

I lost 26 lbs a few months ago, but then my knee acted up was just dx with moderate Arthritis so have to keep moving but just got back to exercising ...yeah I know but I have to get more weight off. Easier on the knees and if I have a 3rd resection , it is alot more painful when you are overweight, so many reasons to get it off. I having D made me lose weight I should be a size 4 but trust me I am not

LOL good to know! I remember being sic as a kid and losing like 5 lbs in a week. So when the scale didn't move after a month and a half, I thought it was strange, hehe.

hi and welcome, 2 things i cant tolerate is soup of any kind and salad, instant D. lettuce seems to sred my insides, very painfull. can tolerate sausage and pastry sometimes and other times i get pain and D.

Soup is ok, just use chicken instead of sausage! My daughter is soup freak she would die without soup.

I've been thinking of trying soups, but I'd have to make my own from scratch, I don't think my body tolerates preservatives well. I agree with Pen though, sausage is tough on me too because it's pork and it's fattier and tougher like beef which I also can't tolerate. Really fibrous vegetables can be tough too, so if the soup didn't break them down enough, definitely chew well!

Funny story! Had lunch with a friend today at Panera Bread. They have the BEST salads! I cannot tolerate it at all. My friend ordered her salad. After a moment I decided to take a risk of making a fool of myself. I told the girl at the counter that I would like the Cobb salad with NO lettuce or tomato! She just stared at me...prob thought it was a joke. I assured her that it was not, and that I couldn't eat the lettuce/tomato, but that the other things (chicken, egg, cheese and a daring little bit of bacon, plus my favorite balsamic dressing) would be ok. Well, they made it and it was almost as good as it would have been with all of the stuff! Well, I hope to repeat this next time too. Have a happy day all!

I love the Asian salad they make... Every time I go there I ask them to hold the cilantro and they never do...

I have heard over and over from that people can't tolerate lettuce. Why do they put it on the initial list of foods you should be able to tolerate?

Hi Horizon...just wanted to let you know that Crohn's doesn't run in my family (that any of us know), I haven't lost any weight, and I'm not kept up at night - but I have a Crohn's diagnosis...I'm also lactose intolerant (which I think comes with the territory with a lot of us Crohnies!) lol... :D I also have the "whole food" thing coming through as well...especially certain veges...I'm still trying to work out what I should and shouldn't eat...but I just love my food too so am finding it hard to give up what I really like. I had a very naughty food day today, but gee it was good!! LOL...

Hopefully you get a proper diagnosis soon - and I hope it isn't Crohn's!!

Take care

Well I spoke too soon. I've lost almost 5 lbs this week. I like losing weight, but not from being sick. Yesterday was brutal. I had an egg and cheese english muffin sandwich, 3 bites of cheesecake (my good friend's 30th bday), a handful of fresh green beans with a little hummus, rice and soup when I got home, and an ice cream popsicle.

I felt so nauseous and like I was going to puke the entire day. I'm going to go buy a nice notebook and start a food diary. I have absolutely no idea which foods are setting me off right now. It seems like pretty much everything. I get sick in the morning before I even eat anything.

Kudos to all of those here that have gone through GI complications of any kind! Lots of amazing people on here :)

A food diary is a great idea. Use it to track BMs and other symptoms too. I have an application on my Android phone called My Day that I use to track everything because it can be too tedious writing everything down in a notebook, plus I have a password on it so nobody can pick it up and wonder why I'm recording such embarrassing details hahaha. I don't know why I went so long without starting one, it has been invaluable even just in the past week since I started it. Best of luck with getting everything sorted out :D
